Huge book, filled with gorgeous art (a lot of which I’ve never seen before) and lore. Even some game tips like what items can be found in which areas – helpful for when I get around to my second playthrough. Can’t recommend it enough

Very high quality book. Beautifully presented and packed full of images, lore & info.
I had just finished Automata a few weeks ago, but this has me wanting to jump right back in to see and experience things I missed.

Amazing for Nier fans for a collection. It is an art book with helpful tips on the side rather than a Guide book and I fear this is why I gets a lot of negative reviews. Don’t buy it if you are wanting to use it as a tool to play the game but if you’re just a fan that wants everything Nier in your collection this is a beautiful and stunning Hardback book. I suggest buying the second volume too!

First let’s make this clear – this is a ‘world guide’, not a game guide. There is information here which is useful in the game, but in no way is this a game walkthrough. Like many others, I love Nier Automata and I couldn’t wait for the English translation of this book. I wasn’t disappointed. The paper quality is great, and it is absolutely packed with artwork and game lore, including a couple of short stories. Much of the art is concept art (of great quality), but the in-game art is rather ‘washed out’. This does not seem to be a printing issue, but a stylistic decision (as if actually viewing the picture on a monitor). In some cases there are deliberate interference patterns over the ‘screen’. This is in keeping with the style of the book, which is presented as a sort of an instruction manual. I did not find it a problem especially as there is so much amazing concept art. Each game area is given a section with loads of associated information, and near the end there is a wonderful section on the machines in the game, including exploded views of all the parts. Concept art and details are given for all the major characters. Any fan of the game is going to love this, and I’m really looking forward to volume 2!

Didn’t play the original which received rave reviews and purchased this as I ordered the White Snow Edition. This book is a bit of a hybrid. Not a game guide and not an art book even though there are lots of images about the various destinations in the game. A detailed synopsis is provided on the main characters and the art work is also spliced with screenshots of the game.

I like how each destination/character/enemy combatants are described as “reports” making this tome feel more like a document than a fictional sci-fi book. There are also intricate maps detailing where weapon shops, item shops and simple rest areas are located. I have no knowledge of this game (yet) but for fans this is an essential purchase and once again a impeccable presentation from Dark Horse, they have really never produced a product that is nothing short of exceptional. 190 pages providing extensive knowledge of a deep multi-faceted world. Highly recommended.
