Drawn From Nature: The Flowering of Irish Botanical Art
- Foreword by Dr Shirley Sherwood, OBE
- Features 220 colour illustrations
- Unique account of Irish botanical art by author, art historian, and curator, Patricia Butler
- Demonstrates the significant contributions made by Irish artists in the field of botanical art
- Glorious botanical artworks from the 17th century to the present
For centuries, artists of all disciplines have expressed delight in nature through the highly skilled and captivating medium of botanical art.
The distinguished contributions of Irish botanical artists include records of plants from 17th-century Ireland, early illustrated floras and botanical art found in the field of design. Drawn from Nature: The Flowering of Irish Botanical Art also covers the importance of botanical art to the Ordnance Survey of Ireland during the 19th century, as well as the vital plant portraits produced by Irish women. These portraits assisted generations of botanists in understanding and describing the natural world but received scant recognition.
Published for the first time, these outstanding examples of Irish botanical art, from both public and private collections, demonstrate a shared desire by botanical artists to observe, illuminate and record Ireland’s unique flora. This book finally affords them the recognition they deserve.

Dressmaking: The Easy Guide: Mix and match skirts, sleeves and necklines for over 80 stylish variations
Create bespoke garments that fit and flatter!
In this comprehensive, informative book, Helen explains how to create beautiful, customized dresses for every shape and size. Choose the exact size that fits and flatters you from a bespoke sizing chart that takes into account differences in body size across bust, waist and hips.
Trace off your pattern pieces, then create a sample (toile) in calico which you can then adapt to create the dress of your dreams, in your own choice of fabulous fabric.
There are four style options each for sleeves and necklines, including a flared sleeve, a capped sleeve, a sweetheart neckline or a boatneck; and five skirt options, including a fitted pencil-style skirt, a zhuzhy circle skirt, and an A-line, with or without pleats.
You can also choose to add a sweet, classic Peter Pan collar, or inseam pockets, to your garment. Alternatively, you can even create a skirt as a separate garment, simply by adding a waistband or facing.
The language of sewing and dressmaking is demystified at the beginning of the book, as well as the equipment you need to get started.
Nothing is left unexplained; and stunning images of the finished dresses, on a mannequin and on a model, are interspersed throughout the book to inspire your own finished pieces.
Extra copies of the full-size pattern sheets/pattern templates exclusive to Dressmaking: The Easy Guide by Helen Rhiannon are available here.

Dublin in Sketches and Stories
Róisín Curé sketches what she sees, wherever she is, from the mundane to the magnificent, and everything in between. With her ears and eyes open, she immerses herself in the urban scene and creates a snippet of the world around her in words and pictures, with nothing more hi-tech than a fountain pen and a small box of watercolours. The bustling, busy city of Dublin is captured here in all its grit and glory, through its buildings and people along with conversations with its inhabitants. You won’t find these stories in any guidebook, as they ebbed and flowed like the ink and paint used to create this very intimate portrait of Dublin and its people. And in this perfect coffee-table book, Roisin Cure has done just that. Whether the genteel grandeur of Merrion Square or the raw vibrancy of Moore Street, Curé has it covered. With more than 100 lively new artworks, Dublin: Sketches and Stories is a joyous snapshot of the beating heart of the Fair City.Read more

Ealing Revisited (Bfi)
Ealing Revisited provides a major reappraisal of one of British cinema’s best-loved institutions, Ealing Studios.During its heyday, Ealing produced a string of classic comedies, including Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949), The Lavender Hill Mob (1951) and The Ladykillers (1955), but there is much more to Ealing than these films, as this volume of new writing on the studio shows.
Addressing both known and less familiar aspects of Ealing’s story, its films, actors and technicians, the contributors uncover what has gone unexplored, or unspoken, in previous histories of the studio, and consider the impact that Ealing has had on British cultural life from the 1930s to the present.

Early British Animation: From Page and Stage to Cinema Screens
This book is the first history of British animated cartoons, from the earliest period of cinema in the 1890s up to the late 1920s. In this period cartoonists and performers from earlier traditions of print and stage entertainment came to film to expand their artistic practice, bringing with them a range of techniques and ideas that shaped the development of British animation. These were commercial rather than avant-garde artists, but they nevertheless saw the new medium of cinema as offering the potential to engage with modern concerns of the early 20th century, be it the political and human turmoil of the First World War or new freedoms of the 1920s. Cook’s examination and reassessment of these films and their histories reveals their close attention and play with the way audiences saw the world. As such, this book offers new insight into the changing understanding of vision at that time as Britain’s place in the world was reshaped in the early 20th century.Read more

A valid study tool useful for beginners and experienced teachers or pianists who can use this collection to work with their students.
To facilitate the study of the piano, I chose the simplest pieces which cover a range of 10 notes maximum .
Also in each score I have also inserted the ideal sung text to help you familiarize yourself with the melody or to sing it all together in company!
Here are some popular children’s song titles :
Jingle Bells
Deck the Hall
Silent Night
Oh Christmas Tree
We Wish You a Merry Christmas
Oh Come All Ye Faithful
The First Noel
Joy to the World
Auld Lang Syne
I Saw Three Ships
Oh Holy Night
O Little Town of Bethlehem
And many others…
But let’s see in detail what you will find in the book:
- a never-before-seen collection of famous melodies
- easy-to-study piano sheet music written in treble clef and bass clef, ideal for developing fluent reading skills
- practice video tutorials also downloadable on PC
- pieces written to be easily performed even by budding pianists, the scores contain fingerings and note names for easy reading
- pieces in order of difficulty , to stimulate learning and gradually deepen your skills as a pianist
- larger print sizes also designed for younger students.
START PLAYING THE PIANO IMMEDIATELY, WITHOUT THEORETICAL NOTIONS.
No musical experience is required as the didactic framework is very intuitive
These scores are written in both treble clef and bass clef, which is fundamental because they help the student learn to play with two hands and lead to learning to read fluently for this reason thisbook differs from most analogues on the market which tend to favor reading only in treble clef, leaving gaps for the student which then become difficult to fill over time.
An added value of this book, compared to several similar collections, is that it contains both right and left writing, thanks to which the melodies have been designed to promote the development of coordination, a very important skill. for anyone who wants to play the piano .
BY WATCHING THE VIDEO TUTORIALS, YOU LEARN HOW TO PLAY THE PIANO EASILY, SIMPLY AND INTUITIVELY.
Accessible by clicking on a link mentioned in the introduction to the book or by scanning a QR code, they can also be downloaded to your PC : in addition to seeing my hands playing, each piano key pressed lights up to help you learn fingerings and note positions simultaneously.
Thanks to these videos, your children will never be discouraged even when studying alone at home, because by watching the exact execution of the piece they will be able to correct themselves immediately, thus gradually improving their skills!

One of the most exhilarating periods in film history began with Dennis Hopper’s groundbreaking “Easy Rider” in 1969 and ended with Scorsese’s masterpiece “Raging Bull” in 1980, with Beverly Hills shrouded under a blanket of cocaine: at least, that’s how it seemed. Based on interviews with all the Hollywood players of the time, this is the story of creativity and excess in Hollywood, when Coppola, Bogdanovich, Scorsese, Lucas, Hopper, Altman and Spielberg were at the height of their powers. Recounted with refreshing candour, those involved talk about their rise to glory and the sex, drugs and money that made so many of them crash and burn.Read more

Echoes: A memoir continued . . .
THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER
Scenic Wye Valley isn’t the typical place for a rock story to begin, but when Echo & the Bunnymen hit the studio to record their ground-breaking debut album, Crocodiles, it was anything but ordinary. The album was the making of the band – cultivating a cult following which would soon evolve into staggering mainstream success. Their lives would never be the same again.
In Echoes, legendary guitarist and founding member of Echo & the Bunnymen, Will Sergeant, recounts the band’s whirlwind rise to stardom with his trademark wryness and intelligence. Sharing never-before-told anecdotes – including the heady Rockfield Studio sessions and touring across the US, playing sold-out shows at Whisky a Go Go and experiencing the iconic New York club scene from dusk ’til dawn – and accompanied by snapshots of the cultural, social and political scene at the time, this is a memoir to remember.

Edvard Munch: love and angst (British Museum)
Edvard Munch (1863–1944) is best known today as a painter, but his reputation was in fact established through his prints, which were central to his creative process. His printmaking was experimental and innovative, and he continually revisited the subjects of his paintings in striking prints, in which he evoked a wide range of emotion and mood through the use of varied techniques.Munch’s early life in the industrial town of Kristiania (renamed Oslo in 1925) was marked by sickness and poverty. His first works centred on the expression of deep emotional experiences, specifically the deaths of his mother and teenage sister when he was growing up, as well as passionate yet unhappy love affairs of which his deeply religious father disapproved. Encouraged by his encounters with a Bohemian society of artists, writers and poets, he developed a visual landscape that was a radical deviation from the slick society portraits and grand Scandinavian landscapes then so much in vogue. His efforts attracted considerable attention and much criticism, and he practised with little financial success as a painter for ten years before he started to gain his reputation as a profoundly innovative printmaker.
Written by a team of acknowledged experts, and with an interview by writer Karl Ove Knausgaard, this book will shed new light on the production of some of Munch’s most remarkable works.

Edward Hopper’s New York
A revealing exploration of Edward Hopper’s inspired relationship to New York City through his paintings, drawings, prints, and never-before-published archival materialsThis engaging book delves into the iconic relationship between Edward Hopper (1882–1967) and New York City. This comprehensive look at an essential aspect of the revered American artist’s life reveals how Hopper’s experience of New York’s spaces, sensations, and architecture shaped his vision and served as a backdrop for his distillations of the urban experience. During sidewalk strolls and elevated train rides, Hopper sketched the city’s many windowed facades. Exterior views gave way to interior lives, forging one of Hopper’s defining preoccupations: the convergence of public and private. These permeable walls allowed Hopper to evoke the perplexing awareness of being alone in a crowd that is synonymous with modern urban life.
Drawing on the vast resources of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the largest repository of Hopper’s work, and the recently acquired gift of the Sanborn Hopper Archive, this book features more than 300 illustrations and fresh insight from authoritative and emerging scholars.Distributed for the Whitney Museum of American Art

Eileen Gray: Her Life and Work
The definitive biography, thoroughly updatedOne of the most important designers and architects of the 20th century, Eileen Gray (1878–1976) wielded enormous influence – though often unacknowledged, especially in her lifetime – in a field largely dominated by men. Today, her original furniture sells for dizzying sums and her iconic designs, including the luxurious Bibendum chair and the refined yet functional E.1027 table, are renowned throughout the world.
Resolutely independent and frequently underappreciated, Gray evolved from a creator of opulent lacquer furniture into a pioneer of the modernist principle of form following function. Remaining separate from major schools or movements such as Bauhaus and De Stijl, she developed her own distinctive take on the forms and materials favoured by fellow International Style designers such as Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand and Mies van der Rohe.
This definitive new edition of the biography by Peter Adam, one of the few people close to Gray during her reclusive later years, is a uniquely intimate survey of her life and work. Comprehensively updated and illustrated with material drawn from Gray’s personal archives – correspondence, journals, photographs and architectural sketchbooks – it tells the full story of her life from aristocratic beginnings in Ireland, through the extravagance of Art Deco-era Paris, relationships with lovers, male and female, and her productive years in southern France. It reveals fresh details about her elegant, largely overlooked paintings; tense exchanges with Le Corbusier; and the fate of E.1027, the home that she designed and furnished herself, and which set a new standard for radically modernist living.
