Stop trying to sort your life out. Start living.
‘Full of wisdom and comfort’ CHRIS VAN TULLEKEN
‘A practical path toward personal transformation… A must-read’ CAL NEWPORT
Our lives can feel defined by the struggle with overwhelm, endless decisions and striving to be productive. Wouldn’t it be good to stop doing all that? What if we could find freedom – and get more of the important things done – by embracing our limitations, and by letting things happen instead of forcing them?
Meditations for Mortals begins with the reality in which we actually find ourselves, not with fantasies of an ideal existence. Reflecting on ideas from philosophy, religion, psychology and self-help, it offers us a powerful and practical new way to do what counts: a guiding outlook Oliver Burkeman calls ‘imperfectionism’.
This book is a profound and liberating crash course in living more fully. It overturns much familiar advice and opens a gateway to a saner, freer and more enchantment-filled life.

If I was forced to choose one book to be a “must read,” and I never do, because why?, I would make an exception for this one.
I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t find gold to mine in this precious and enjoyable resource.

What a calming, smart, fun read, I really enjoyed it!
I read a chapter each morning over 4 weeks, I guess this made the reading experience much more satisfying for me than binging it away in an evening as usual. I can recommend this!
Thanks, Oliver Burkeman, for this wonderful book!

Loved 4000 Weeks and The Anecdote – Happiness for people who can’t stand positive thinking. Been regularly enjoying Oliver’s newsletters too. This was on pre order for me and it hasn’t disappointed – far from it.
Do the things you want to do. Stop planning so much and trying to do things perfectly , just do it imperfectly – even for 15 minutes. Accept life will never be in your control, there will always be too much to do, so pick and choose how you spend your time – if you are prepared to accept the consequences .
Those are some of the things I took from this easy to read and, at times, laugh out loud book. And, as Oliver says, there is no list in here for a meaningful life , because that will be look and be different for us all. But it’s a great read to stimulate our thinking, and our doing.

Highly recommend this book. I bought this book because I really enjoyed the four thousand weeks by Oliver Burkeman. It is very nicely written and do not get confused that this book is about meditation.. It is not about meditation rather about provoking thoughts in brain as one reads the book. It is about practical advice as to how to lead life in present while acknowledging one’s imperfections. It is not your typical self help book.. The content is not overwhelming it has nice quotes and practical advice for example a coach or a friend urging you to take action instead of thinking too much about taking action one fine day! I do not want to give it away but I especially liked the chapter on being like a kayak vs superyachts You will not regret the purchase!!

Saw a friend had this book, I respect their choices so thought I’d give it a try. I’m so glad I did. 10 minutes a day for a boost of common sense that we all need right now.

I don’t think I’ve highlighted and shared quotes with loved ones more then I have with this book. Really really loved it, would recommend to anyone. What a brilliant and thoughtful writer Oliver Burkeman is, and I feel so lucky to be alive at a time where I have access to his books and newsletter. We’ve won the lottery and exist, and we get to use that existence to enjoy brilliant books like this one.

I never write reviews, but I felt absolutely compelled to after finishing this wonderful book. It found its way into my life at just the perfect time—right when both my work stress and personal life felt overwhelming. Before diving into the craziness of each day, I made it a ritual to read one chapter while enjoying my morning coffee. It was the best way to start the day, offering a truly great perspective.
I underlined so many passages (which I never do!) to revisit later because the insights were that valuable. The author’s writing style is engaging, and the book is clearly well-researched. I’ve already set a reminder to read it again next year.
If you’re on the fence about buying this book, don’t hesitate—just do it. I can’t recommend it highly enough!

There is so much packed into this excellent book, it’s impressive that it reads so clearly. A real pleasure to read, I couldn’t help but race through it in a day. But I’ll be going back again and digging more deeply each day over the recommended four weeks. Also, there are lots of fascinating-sounding further reading recommendations at the end.

I have been a fan of Oliver Burkeman since his 4000 weeks book and this one did not disappoint. it’s more a collection of 28 short chapters which can be pondered each day. It is the sort of book that could be read over and over again.

Great book. And physically a normal quality paperback.
