I can’t say I resonate with the infertility section as that’s not really why we adopted, but it was a lovely read and would highly recommend to any would be adopters. I wish I had read this prior to starting the adoption process – it’s a lovely read and I hope my partner and I can be as happy as your family sounds.

Reads from the view of husband and wife separately, telling exactly the same story so in essence reading the story twice on repeat, skipped the last three chapters as I got bored sadly

I’ve only recently been looking into adoption and was after a book that would offer an honest insight into the adoption process. Safe to say that this book really delivers! The infertility in the first section was less relevant to our situation but was so detailed and emotional, anyone struggling with infertility will find it resonates the pain you go through. It was a very easy read and was nice to see the story from multiple perspectives though it does get repetitive in places. I knew the process would be hard, but the book confirms what a torturous and intrusive journey it can be which is really helping us get our heads around the timescales and criteria. I do wish there was a little more written about the positives of parenting adoptive children, what it’s like day to day, how rewarding it can be. Well worth a read and a good starting point if you’re considering adoption.

The honesty of the book is completely refreshing. A story of a family who adopted children and their journey through the process – covering warts and all. A very brave thing to do but this heartfelt account is so welcome and inspiring that I would encourage everyone to read it, not just the families considering adoption.

I was interested in this book because I have friends who adopted and I wanted to better understand their journey.
This was a truthful and honest account of the sometimes difficult and intrusive process of this particular path to parenthood. I immediately warmed to both Jane and David as they shared their individual stories and demonstrated, not only their commitment to each other, but also their growing family.
A short but inspiring tale that could be applied to many areas of life because, essentially, it’s about sticking with our dreams even in the face of adversity.
How wonderful that so many children receive second chances because of people like Jane and David.

This story brought a tear to my eye on more than one occasion. The book begins with Jane’s burning desire to be a mother. This is thwarted by a medical problem. IVF was the next step, but was also a disappointment. The desire to be a mother was not diminished so the next step was adoption. The story of this process is told separately by Jane and David. Adoption is a long arduous process and tests the resolve of everybody involved. A partnership has to be very strong to survive it. A good read for anyone considering adoption.
