THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER

From award-winning actor and food obsessive Stanley Tucci comes an intimate and charming memoir of life in and out of the kitchen. For Stanley and foodie fans, this is the perfect, irresistible gift.

Before Stanley Tucci became a household name with The Devil Wears Prada, The Hunger Games, and his legendary Negronis, he grew up in an Italian American family that spent every night around he table. In Searching For Italy, he revealed his passion for the secrets and delights of the country’s many cuisines. Now, he shares the magic of a lifetime of meals, and the stories behind them.

Filled with anecdotes about growing up, shooting foodie films like Julie & Julia, falling in love across the table, and making dinner for his family, Taste is a reflection on the joys of food and life itself. Through five-star meals and burnt dishes, and from the good times to the bad, each morsel of this gastronomic journey is as heartfelt and delicious as the last.

‘It’s impossible to read this without becoming ravenous!’ Nigella Lawson

‘Superb … Establishes Tucci as one of the wisest and most generous personalities of our time’ Daily Mail

‘The man, the myth, The Devil Wears Prada legend Stanley Tucci has blessed our hungry souls with a food memoir … Prepare to feel bereaved when it’s over’ Evening Standard

An entertaining look at an interesting life from a likeable author, running the spectrum from happiness to tragedy and back again. Definitely in the ‘read again’ pile, and a great TV series was made to go with it.

Mixed feelings about this one. It’s an easy read with lots of interesting food stories and recipes, as well as a very moving memoir about one’s illness. About half way through I started to be annoyed by author’s attempt to convince me that he is just an ordinary person who loves food, while most of the experiences described relate to very expensive rare ingredients, meals cooked by top chefs who happen to be author’s friends, luxurious food trips and in general very privileged way of life. Nothing wrong with that in general, but it made me feel that Tucci is either detached from reality or unauthentic (he also writes a lot about his humble background, but had an uncle whose leisure activity was deer hunting and so on). A few rather intense stories related to animals and meat as well. I’d be interested to watch some of the TV series about Italy to see how that feels in comparison, but maybe in some time.

I purchased this book as a birthday gift for my Italian brother in law who had watched the TV series recently. He is enjoying the book very much.

Bought to read on holiday in Italy and it was the perfect choice. As a fan of Stanley Tucci, this book was a fabulous look into his life, as someone has already said, it’s as though you can hear his wonderful voice as you are reading it. Lots of laugh out loud moments and I loved every page. I have since tried out some of the recipes featured too! I think my husband is sick of me saying “according to Stanley, in his book…”
    I highly recommend it!

It took me several months to finish Taste. I’ve been busy and wanted to savour every word of it and not just grab quick bites in a hurry. Stanley Tucci has a gift of describing how food matters so much to him. His memories of certain foods and the theatre which surrounded certain meals in his household were quite simply delicious. I didn’t want the book to end and only hope he will write more like this. He’s famous, he’s got famous friends, he can name drop all he wants because he’s obviously a great bloke who has had all that life can throw at him, both good and bad but he’s still an all round good egg and I imagine a great husband, father & friend. LOVED THIS BOOK.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, which I found very engaging and almost relaxing. It’s not a cook book and it’s not an autobiography. It’s an amble through Stanley’s life in food, taking you through different experiences and loves from the world of food. It also had sizeable nods to his background and his broader story, which are interesting reads. I think it probably helps to have watched his tv series, and I will admit that I read the whole thing in his voice. It helps you get into the style.
