The Autoimmune Solution: Prevent and Reverse the Full Spectrum of Inflammatory Symptoms and Diseases

£9.50£10.40 (-9%)

Over 90 percent of the population suffers from inflammation or an autoimmune disorder. Until now, conventional medicine has said there is no cure. Minor irritations like rashes and runny noses are ignored, while chronic and debilitating diseases like Crohn’s and rheumatoid arthritis are handled with a cocktail of toxic treatments that fail to address their root cause. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

In The Autoimmune Solution, Dr. Amy Myers, a renowned leader in functional medicine, offers her medically proven approach to prevent a wide range of inflammatory-related symptoms and diseases, including allergies, obesity, asthma, cardiovascular disease, fibromyalgia, lupus, IBS, chronic headaches, and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

As a physical therapist and holistic practitioner with a particular interest in nutrition, I have read many similar books, so much of what Amy says is not new or controversial, but if you haven’t been immersed in this alternative field then it could be new to you. I am not surprised her method works, and I am sure it does, and if it doesn’t then you will need the support of a nutritionist to organise and run other tests for you, so don’t give up. She explains clearly and in sufficient detail the nutritional principles behind her diet. Her approach is essentially a paleo one but she also excludes seeds and explains why.

On the other side of the coin, there are diets from well known UK nutritionists such as Patrick Holford and Marilyn Glenville that take an almost vegetarian approach and appear to achieve a similar result, like this diet they do avoid wheat, glutein, and dairy, caffeine and alcohol, sugar but avoid meat, which does produce acidity in the body, which could be unhelpful, particularly if you are not an O type, according to Peter Adamo, Eat right for your blood type.

This would appear to be a good option for meat eaters, vegetarians might like to try the other approaches mentioned first and if not successful switch to this one.

The Myers way is a kind of health detective story – read it to find the clues to your own health, then use the clues to solve your health mysteries.
I have been lucky health wise and am pretty healthy at eighty-six, but early disappointments with conventional medicine, plus a lucky chance to stumble across a simple healing method for intractable sores on my legs, convinced me to read medical literature outside the conventional regimes.
The Autoimmune Solution is undoubtedly one of the most interesting – and encouraging – medical books I have read. I will go on the 30 day diet as soon as I can get my life organised to do so. I am confident I will get outstanding results.
My only criticism is that the book is rather long. I would prefer a short version just listing the salient points. I think it could be done at one third of the length of this book – readers could always take on the more detailed book once they have understood the basics.

The is a typical American book by what I call “superstar doctors”. You see them popping up all over the states and they have huge followings. Mostly they base their science on other work but they are smart at selling it. I mean look at Dr Myers, she is attractive, looks amazing for her age, battled disease herself, is relatable, and has an MD, whats not to like!

The book is pretty much a jazzed up take on The Whole30 diet and the closely related GAPS diet. Regardless of implementation and phasing, the basic outline is the same. Cut the toxins and all inflaming foods out for good. Enjoy the rewards.

The book goes into detail as to the science behind chronic inflammations and why it is important to be strict about this. It is a great read and a serious eye opener. But you have to keep in mind that the science in the book is all to support to eventual conclusion. There are pretty broad generalisations that are made about the medical community, but by in large, it is rather accurate.

But like all American books of the genre, expect plenty of product placement and self promotion. Not that it takes away from the quality of the material. But there are pages dedicated to getting you to buy supplements she recommends. Many of which are actually excellent.

I would recommend the book to anyone suffering from anything from minor to severe symptoms of any chronic immune related disease or condition. It could be that you get the off symptom or are in constant pain, you should really feel some relief if you stick to the programme for a while. And even if you are just curious, get to it, save yourself a world of pain. But you are making lifelong commitments here. I believe this gives hope to many people. I think you will find this especially helpful if your symptoms havent yet crippled your life completely and if you are young enough to really build momentum. But it should help you regardless.

Lots of information and details but not easy to just cut to the important facts of changes to make, things to do and things to avoid. Personally,I know a lot about my various, complex , autoimmune disorders and just was hoping for help to feel better but think I’ll have to read the whole book to glean the changes I need to make, I was just fired up to start being proactive to improve my health if I can, but it’ll have to take a wee while to sift through all the pages. She seems knowledgeable and the language is user friendly,so that’s a bonus, thanks

This book is very illuminating but I am yet to do the diet as I ordered it on my Kindle and it’s impossible to download the meal plans and recipes from a kindle and frustratingly difficult to find what you need to follow. Get the paperback if you want to use this as a guide to the diet.
I have tried screenshots of pages and emailing the to myself but it doesn’t translate. Wasted my money on this and will now have to get the paperback too.
