Secrets. Suspicion. Survival. No one writes relationships better than B.A. PARIS

‘A rollercoaster ride, with plenty of twists’ OBSERVER
‘The explosive start of this book sets up a compelling plot […] written in well-executed super-edgy, short, sharp chapters and the description of her confinement is full of claustrophobic detail and menace’ DAILY MAIL
‘Book of the Month: chilling, intense and frightening in places, you’ll be left wondering what is real and what isn’t’ WOMAN & HOME

THEN

Amelie has always been a survivor, from losing her parents as a child in Paris to making it on her own in London. As she builds a career for herself in the magazine industry, she meets, and agrees to marry, Ned Hawthorne.

NOW

Amelie wakes up in a pitch-black room, not knowing where she is. Why has she been taken? Who are her mysterious captors? And why does she soon feel safer here, imprisoned, than she had begun to feel with her husband Ned?

In true B.A. Paris style, The Prisoner is a gripping survival story, a twisted tale of love and at its dark heart a thriller to keep you up all night.

‘Clever, twisty and unusual’ LOUISE BEECH

‘So utterly gripping I finished it in one heart-racing afternoon. Clobbered me from the first page and kept me hostage until I’d turned the last’ EMMA BAMFORD
‘[T]his web of fear and lies is much more complex, satisfyingly so, than Room, involving many more characters, intricate plotting, and layers of subterfuge. Paris’s fans won’t be disappointed and readers new to the author will be hooked’ FIRST CLUE

Read this book very quickly as the story line was gripping.

Another great book from BA Paris. I enjoyed the way this was written as past and present chapters. A very intriguing plot and I thoroughly enjoyed the book . My only disappointment was the ending. Although it answered a lot of questions it wasn’t the ending I expected, and seemed very rushed. Nevertheless, a really good read

Great book. Very original storyline. Fast-paced page turner. It’s rare that I don’t predict the ending, but I didn’t see this one playing out the way it did. Amazing read

Amelie finds herself entering into a marriage of convenience with the very rich Ned. 31 days she has stayed married to him, that’s all. But then they’re kidnapped. And things change.

A book where much of the first part is spent with Amelie circling a small room with a mattress in the corner and the only light in a bathroom could drag. However, it set the scene, how she ended up in the position she was in, and why she felt safer in her “prison” rather than with her new husband. Yes, characters could have been developed more. Yes, I wasn’t so invested in Amelie as a character, but I was invested in her story and why she was part of the kidnapping.

This book kept me hooked. I had my suspicions of who was behind it all but also didn’t join all the dots (kudos for all those that did). I didn’t feel the need to delve into each and every character. I neither liked nor disliked Amelie. For me, it was not so much about what happened to the characters but more so about the how and why. The “maybe” at the end hints that there will be a happy ending and don’t we all want that?

This book was chosen for our work book club. It was an interesting read. It was actually quite believable about the abduction. Liked the backstory of how she got one over on the despicable villain and how the kidnappers used the same tactic.

Once I started reading I couldn’t stop, as the tension had me wanting to read just one more chapter each night. While I’m not usually a fan of books that jump backwards and forwards in time, this one seemed to work for me. There were a few scenarios that seemed rather unrealistic and a bit too convenient (can’t elaborate without spoilers) and the ending summing up the whys and wherefores was a littlĺe bit rushed and confusing, but on the whole I really enjoyed it.

I’m a big fan of BA Paris and when this book came up as a suggestion on Goodreads I bought it immediately. I was gripped from beginning in typical Paris style and engaged throughout. I loved the pace at which the story unravelled. The only thing I didn’t like was the ending felt rushed and sooo far fetched. The book left me with questions and kinda feel cheated. I felt the pivotal people were added at the end without enough room to fully develop them. However it was an enjoyable book
