I was looking forward to this book. I bought it after seeing the new breed of young GP’s who seem to be health conscious recommend it. I’m disappointed. There is a little bit of practical advice – how to wash and moisturise for different skin types (not much more than you’d see in the average beauty book), and frequent repetitive messages on wearing sunscreen. The chapter on skin cancer at the back of the book is it’s saving grace. For the rest it really concentrated on clinical chemical dermatology treatments in order to treat ageing. Chemical peels, lip fillers, Botox every few months from late twenties are all recommended. Get a pimple two days before your wedding? No worries – simply go and see a consultant dermatologist today and they can inject it which will be painful but in two days you’ll be good to go. That’s the advice. Not to mention the unlikelihood of us ever being able to get an ‘emergency’ appointment on the day (specifically on the nhs). It’s overkill. I’m disappointed I have to say. Nothing on make up or care of other areas of skin – just how to keep your face looking in its twenties using expensive medical treatments over and over that you can not get on the nhs. For good reason. Nothing to encourage self esteem other than ‘getting these treatments will improve your self esteem’ because getting rid of wrinkles is the best way to self esteem? Disappointing from a U.K. health professional!!!

I’m 32 and probably own about 25 face masks , 12 cleansers , scrubs , oils , serums, you name it then I’ll have 10 of each. I’m obsessed with skincare and the latest beauty products , anything to make my face look younger and fresher and to get rid of acne and pigmentation. I have read a lot of books about what to eat to feed your face and neals yard beauty books .

However this book is BY FAR THE BEST and it’s going to save me a lot of money in the future . I read this book in one day learning about different skin concerns, acne, dark circles, cellulite, stretch marks, roseaca, pregnancy, hormones. It is written so well that you don’t have to be a scientist to understand the language, she goes through what ingredients to look for when buying products and the fact that a cheaper cream will have the exact same as a £100 pot and that face masks only work for that initial evening , they don’t penetrate deep enough in the skin cells to make a lasting effect.

Every person should buy this, it’s an eye opener and could save you hundreds !

I absolutely love this book – to the extent that I’m already reading it again and have recommended it to several friends. It is exactly what it says on the tin – it is a bible of skin health armed with information that you can refer back to repeatedly. It will help you make the right choices on the high street and not get sucked in by marketing ploys, and it guides you into starting a skincare routine that is right for you. It is completely non biased and based on fully backed scientific research. It is so refreshing to be getting this sort of advice from someone with the extent of training that Dr. Anjali Mahto has had. It even gives you different ingredients you see in cosmetics and what to look out for when considering your skin health. I really do think that this book is a must for anyone with a true interest in skin health and what is right for them and I cannot recommend it enough. So worth the money.

This book is a great solid introduction into skin care. It explains simple biology concepts in simple terms, shows clear cause and effect examples and provides very useful advice for specific ingredients to look out for!
For those who are interested in skincare already there may not be a lot of new information there. However because od the language and approach of a friendly scientist some terminology that might have not been clear before will definitely seem much simpler after reading this book.

The Skincare Bible is an excellent book that explains and provides solutions for almost every common skin concern thoroughly and with care. The first chapter covers the science of skin, what it is made up of and what it does, before moving on to tackle skin care regimens and the products one should definitely use or avoid for each skin concern, including acne, rosacea, scarring, dryness, sensitivity and many more. The book is written in a slightly conversational style, so it is not a dull read.
My only criticism would be the lack of an index or a separate ingredient list as a one-stop shop for deciding which products are likely to be suitable for you. As it is, you really need to read the book in its entirety to learn what you are likely to require.
I have learned a lot though, and would recommend this book to anyone who is experiencing information overload in the media when it comes to skincare.

I WISH THIS BOOK WAS OUT WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER!!

As a dietitian I’ve always valued evidence-based practice however until I met Anjali and read her work (including this book) I didn’t think to apply it to my skin care!

I’ve always had the odd spot growing up but last year broke out with terrible acne on my cheeks; after speaking to Anjali and acquiring the knowledge in this book my skin has now never looked as good; I’m COMPLETELY acne free & my skin actually has a glow to it (I’m almost 32!). Who new it was all down to the products that I was/wasn’t using on my skin.. it wasn’t down to my diet or stress (for me anyway).

I bought this book not only for myself but for my sister too as I think she will benefit massively from it; I love how Anjali breaks down complicated topics into simple, easy to read pieces of information and I WILL NOT be buying any more skin care unless I’ve read up on it first.

I love this book as there is something for everyone; from acne to anti-aging (I need both of those!) to stretch marks, SPF & rosacea too.

You need this book in your life to save money & heartache.. I for one know how much upset my bad skin has brought me in the past.

Thank you Anjali SO much (and the Penguin girls) for writing this book. It’s just what we needed.
