Everything a drummer needs to prepare for the performance and technical work components of Trinity drum kit exams from 2020. Encompassing a wider range of styles than ever before, the syllabus allows candidates to follow distinct stylistic pathways jazz, funk, Latin, musical theatre with arrangements of well-known works sitting alongside pieces specifically written for the syllabus by leading drum kit educators and performers. Performance notes are included for each piece, along with new technical work rudiments and exercises for each grade, and backing tracks are included as a free download.
Note: As of April 2023, Trinity’s Drum Kit & Percussion 2020-2023 Syllabus will no longer operate with an end date. Therefore, Trinity’s Drum Kit Exam Pieces 2020-2023 books will be valid indefinitely (subject to copyright) and any planned updates will be announced at least 12 months in advance. Trinity will be gradually amending the covers on these books upon reprint to ‘from 2020’, however there are books in circulation with the previous date range. In those cases, the change to syllabus arrangements overrides the dates printed on the cover of the book

Really good book

I purchased this book but have been unable to access my Soundwise account to download the music. I have tried requesting a password reset via their website but email is not answered. I tried to set up another account using another of my email addresses but it says the e-mail address is in use, which is incorrect. In desperation, I tried to set up an account in my wife’s name but it says the e-mail address is in use, which is also incorrect.
I now have a music book which is no use without the backing tracks and will have to be returned. No further Trinity College music books will be purchased.

The content is exceptionally well thought out. Audio tracks that accompany the book can be downloaded without any issue from SoundWise (there’s a code in the back of the book). First up rudiment practise, followed by related exercises relevant to the performance piece then, when you’re ready, the performance piece. There’s a variety of styles and helpful performance notes for each piece. I felt somewhat challenged by Grade 03 so ordered Grades Initial-02 (separate review for this) and went back to basics. I’m a hobby drummer, not working towards exams, and practise every day for fun. I recommend this book to novice and established drummers alike. It’s a great way to hone technique and improve reading skills. Brilliant!
