  • To Paradise: From the Author of A Little Life

    04

The No.1 Sunday Times bestseller from the author of A Little Life.

To Paradise is a bold, brilliant novel spanning three centuries and three different versions of the elusive idea of utopia; driven by Hanya Yanagihara’s understanding of our desire to protect those we love – lovers, children, friends, family and even our fellow citizens – and the pain that ensues when we cannot.

In an alternate version of 1893 America, New York is part of the Free States, where people may live and love as they please (or so it seems).

In a 1993 Manhattan besieged by the AIDS epidemic, a young Hawaiian man lives with his much older, wealthier partner, hiding his troubled childhood and the fate of his father.

In 2093, in a world torn apart by plagues and governed by totalitarian rule, a powerful scientist’s damaged granddaughter tries to navigate life without him – and solve the mystery of her husband’s disappearance.

What unites these characters, and these Americas, are their reckonings with the qualities that make us human – fear, love, shame, loneliness – and the longing to find a place in an earthly paradise.

‘I’m not sure I’ve ever missed the world of a book as much’ – Observer
‘Not only rare . . . revolutionary’ – Michael Cunningham

  • Virginia Woolf: A Critical Memoir

    04
Virginia Woolf is one of the most important writers of the twentieth century.

Part of the Bloomsbury set, she lived surrounded by other artists and writers, and her novels and essays have inspired generations of readers and writers ever since their publication.

Her personal struggles with depression and mental illness, and her feminist beliefs come across strongly in her work, illuminating an important period in British social history, not just for women’s rights, but for a whole nation scarred by the effects of two world wars.

Winifred Holtby gives us Woolf the critic, the essayist and the experimental novelist in this critical memoir which is of particular interest as the work of one intelligent, though very different, novelist commenting on another.

Holtby’s careful reading of Woolf’s work is set in the context of the debate between modernist and traditional writing in the 1920s and 1930s.

Although Holtby greatly admires Woolf’s art, she considers its limitations as an elite form that ignores the material conditions of everyday life and the consequent social responsibility expected of the novel.

Choosing to write about Woolf as ‘the author whose art seemed most of all removed from anything I could ever attempt, and whose experience was most alien to my own,’ Holtby has written a candid appreciation of the complex, groundbreaking work of a contemporary writer at the height of her career.

Winifred Holtby (1898-1935) was an English novelist and journalist. She is also the author of the ‘South Riding’ series.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Lyndsey Gallagher is THE QUEEN page turners!”

    Ava:
My perpetually single status hardly serves as a shining advertisement for HeartSync, the dating agency I own. Which is precisely why I agree to fake-date Cillian “can’t-crack-a-smile” Callaghan for the month of December.

Even boxes that are supposed to remain, ahem, unticked…

One mistletoe kiss sparks a lust that could melt Lapland, and frosty fake dates blaze into something feverishly real…

    Cillian:
I’m the country’s most successful divorce lawyer. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out why I don’t date. Add in the fact that I’m a full-time single dad, even if I had the inclination, I don’t have the time. But when my cheating ex blows back into town, the only way I can convince her it’s over for good is by fake-dating someone else…

Enter Ava Jackson, with her infectious laugh, long legs, and luscious lips.

‘A smart and highly entertaining portrait of a literary powerhouse’
    – THE TIMES BOOKS OF THE YEAR

    ‘A riveting portrait’
    – GUARDIAN BOOKS OF THE YEAR

    ***
‘Worsley’s sparkling biography brings a fresh eye to Christie’s life and work, firmly busting the myth that she, or her novels, were cosy.’ Daily Mail

‘Every Christie fan should read this’ – The Times

‘Shows the Queen of Crime in a new light.’ – Daily Telegraph

‘Worsley’s book excels in bringing a broader historical perspective to Christie’s life and work, and her enthusiasm is infectious.’ – Observer

‘Nobody in the world was more inadequate to act the heroine than I was.’

Why did Agatha Christie spend her career pretending that she was ‘just’ an ordinary housewife, when clearly she wasn’t? As Lucy Worsley says, ‘She was thrillingly, scintillatingly modern’. She went surfing in Hawaii, she loved fast cars, and she was intrigued by the new science of psychology, which helped her through devastating mental illness.

So why – despite all the evidence to the contrary – did Agatha present herself as a retiring Edwardian lady of leisure?
She was born in 1890 into a world which had its own rules about what women could and couldn’t do. Lucy Worsley’s biography is not just of an internationally renowned bestselling writer. It’s also the story of a person who, despite the obstacles of class and gender, became an astonishingly successful working woman.

With access to personal letters and papers that have rarely been seen, Lucy Worsley’s biography is both authoritative and entertaining and makes us realise what an extraordinary pioneer Agatha Christie was – truly a woman who wrote the twentieth century.

    Introduction:

Thanks for purchasing this eBook, as you show a genuine interest in the world of Airbrushing “Aquatic Animals”. Back when I was learning to draw aquatic animals, I liked watching the wonderful scene inside the aquarium, of my pet“Goldfish”. At first I was amazed at the features and colors, but when I kept seeing more details as it moved, an idea struck inside my head. I thought about adding some colors to my drawing. I kept the drawing for a while, since I’m still learning to paint in acrylic, and after a few months of browsing some of my files, I saw my drawing again. I decided to paint it in colors with acrylic using an airbrush, since by that time I already knew how to use an airbrush. I painted it with a very satisfied result, and later on I saw it hung on the wall of my best friend house. I was so glad!

I’m not encouraging you to give away your masterpiece, rather the point I’m making is that with your airbrush, you can make limitless fantastic art. If only you could imagine this tool’sgreatness with its capabilities. So, I made this eBook for you to learn the basics of airbrushing that every beginner needs to know and practice to master it. I made this book also, for an airbrush artist who wants to learn to paint aquatic creatures. We will be using some other materials to complete our artwork like; Watercolor pencils, masking film or other masking materials that are available, and many more. First, you have to invest a little by getting a good airbrush and a reliable air compressor for you to start painting. I also included all the materials needed for our work, and I’m sure they are available at any art store.

Make some time to read and practice all the exercises in this eBook, and in no time you will be a great airbrush artist in painting Aquatic Animals. Remember to have fun when spraying with your airbrush!
