Good conclusion to the story but it could have been so much more. Considering that they were already together this book is sooooo slow burn. Yes there is plenty of spice and thats a saving grace of the book.
For them to finally get married in the last 5% of the book with nothing afterwards it is so disappointing for a 430page book. So you can probably tell how much filler has been added to this book.
What i would have loved was all this to happen near the start and not getting exciting 60% in. For it to be about them during coming out and life afterwards together through the years.
Dont get me wrong this is a good book thats been written well and im glad i read 8t but just wished it was more.

Well, dayum! This broke me and put me back together again.
A fabulous conclusion to the series that doesn’t shy away from the struggles of the main characters.
I have rarely read such a beautiful portrayal of high-functioning depression in what Ilya is dealing with. Adding Shane’s struggle to support his love, when he’s hiding from Shane and Shane is also somewhat struggling to understand, was just heartrending.
And the pinky rings (IYKYK!) made me tear up.
I would have loved more of Coach Wiebe and the Ottawa Centaurs’ support of Ilya against the NHL commissioner. And more of Ilya’s POV on what happened with Troy in NYC (in Role Model, mentioned here), but one can’t have everything.

I’m glad I read this and I felt every emotion in every page and ughhhhhh I want more of them. At least an epilogue of like 5years with 5 Stanley’s. Guy’s just read and oh my God, Ilya you’re the best. I really wish I could I hug you. I savored this book every second. No matter what and how many books I read you’re going to be my favorite because I already chose you.

The Long Game, the long-awaited and much anticipated follow-up to Heated Rivalry, is everything you could possibly want as Shane and Ilya fight for their happily ever after.
Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov captured the hearts of readers in Heated Rivalry and here we laugh, cry and love with them on their journey to their HEA.
I had worried about any serious angst before starting The Long Game, as despite the first book only ending on a HFN, it ended well, and I feared seeing these two that I adore so much separated etc. But I need not have worried. Yes, there is drama, yes, there’s some angst, yes, I wanted to shake Shane at times! But Rachel Reid has delivered the perfect book to complete their story (though I hope this isn’t the last we see of Shane and Ilya, I definitely want more! 🙏)
There are several serious themes throughout, homophobia, depression, thoughts of suicide etc, and I was reduced to tears several times as I saw Ilya’s struggles. Rachel Reid’s writing here is exemplary. The way she can get her reader to feel so deeply for the characters is extraordinary. Reid is able to have us wanting to laugh one minute and cry the next, she certainly brings out all the emotions. But I loved how Ilya was able to open up and admit he wasn’t okay (“I think I might be depressed. Sometimes.”). It was heart-wrenching and so emotional, but dealt with so well.
But The Long Game is not without humour. There’s Ilya’s famous sarcasm and wit, Shane’s barbs (“I am bisexual,” Ilya said, nodding. “Shane is super gay.” “I’m regular gay,” Shane argued 🤣🤣🤣)
I loved the scene with Hayden’s kids, it was unbelievably sweet 😍
Don’t even hesitate to get this book! The Long Game is the perfect conclusion to this story, and this series. Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov are two of my all-time favourite characters and I really don’t want to let them go! I just pray we get more sometime.

This whole series has been wonderful, addictive and sexy as hell!
The characters from all the books are fully fleshed out and not LGBTQIA+ tropes they read like real people, real men (complicated, human and brave).
Go and get every book from this series and enjoy! I will need more in this series and more from all these amazing characters:
