Happy Mind, Happy Life: 10 Simple Ways to Feel Great Every Day
The Instant No.1 Bestseller
‘Happy Mind, Happy Life is a book borne not only from deep medical and scientific expertise, but from real life’ – from the foreword by Oliver Burkeman, author of Four Thousand Weeks
Happiness is a practice, not a destination. We often treat happiness as something to pursue, a reward we’ll reach once life is finally in order. But what if happiness is not an outcome, but a practice – the foundation that shapes how we meet each moment?
Drawing on over twenty years as a doctor, Dr Rangan Chatterjee has seen that motivation and willpower rarely sustain us for long. True wellbeing only becomes possible when we learn to nurture what he calls core happiness – a steadier, more resilient form of joy that doesn’t depend on circumstances.
In Happy Mind, Happy Life, Dr Chatterjee blends science, case studies, and simple exercises to show how small, daily choices ripple into lasting change. Through ten simple but profound ways, you’ll explore how to:
- Treat yourself with compassion and respect
- Redesign your relationship with technology
- Respond to criticism without being derailed
This is not a manual for quick fixes, but an invitation to reimagine how you live – so that health, clarity, and contentment flow naturally into your days.

Hall of this book is composed of totally pointless full page colour photos of the author. No one in their right mind wants to pay a lot of money for the major part of this book which they won’t look at or at best will glance at as the pages turn.
Next, a very high percentage of the half that is composed of words is written on difficult coloured paper. Usually blue with type being anything from black (almost readable) to a pale yellow or white, both of which, against a blue background, are. Very hard to read. I am not dyslexic and I have difficulty, I know that it has been found that the wrong colour typeface on a wrong colour background makes a book unreadable especially from the reader who needs sensible choices offered.
So we have Half the book composed of author’s photographs and half of the remainder in difficult to read print. That leaves a QUARTER of your investment spent on something useful.
I have read the book and found it interesting and helpful, but it drove up my stress levels enormously very often leaving me ‘time poor’
Reprint the tomb. It needs it, because, finally, its a badly chosen shape. A more conventional book size and shape would also make it easier to read.
If you buy this book you will learn. It may be a struggle to read it, but the content is, in the main, worth the effort.

I had been looking forward to the arrival of my copy of Happy Mind, Happy Life, having already followed the related podcast content, and it is every bit as good as I had hoped. So much wisdom distilled into clear, practical, unpatronising language. And just so enjoyable to read! Some health books can scare you by pointing out all the hazards out there to watch out for, but Rangan’s do the opposite – they lift you up, reassure you, and make you feel everything’s going to be ok and that you have the power to make yourself feel better.
Rangan’s understanding of what happiness is – and what it isn’t – makes total sense. I love the fact that he always has one eye on our evolutionary past, which informs so much of our current state of body and mind. Rangan believes that most of our ills are linked to the mismatch between our fundamental nature, honed by millions of years of evolution, and the vastly different world we now find ourselves in, and I think he’s absolutely right.
He shows us what we can do to live more in tune with this fundamental nature, even in the modern world.
I don’t know whether it’s the pretty pictures (they certainly help!), but, having already devoured the whole thing in one day, I can tell this is a book I’m going to be picking up again and again to refer back to. Thank you, Dr Chatterjee, for your monumental (and ever-growing) contribution to human well-being.

Absorbing, informative and relaxing read. This book communicates both simply and deeply at the same time. Friends I have passed it on to have found it life-changing. Well done, Dr Chatterjee!

There is some solid sensible advice here. The content is good and well written. However some of the pages don’t read well on the Kindle Paperwhite and I would advise against buying it in that format (and think the publishers should have checked this!)

5 stars definitely! Absolutely enjoyable book, I read it a few years ago, but the best feeling is that I do want to read it again, as I remember it as a very pleasant, soothing and relaxing read.
The wish to read a book again is what makes it worth buying.

As a fan of all his books and podcasts, I was really looking forward to receiving his latest work and it certainly does not disappoint. All of Dr. Chatterjee’s previous books arm you with excellent advice, tips and knowledge to help you lead a better life. I am not sure how he does it but this surpasses them all. It is very readable, accessible, applicable and most importantly, it feels as though it is written from the heart. I am a practicing doctor and pass on Dr. Chatterjee’s tips to my patients on a daily basis. It is invaluable advice that we never learnt at medical school and cannot easily garner from textbooks. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone. Well done Dr. Chatterjee and thank you.

Starting on the journey of improving mindfulness and mental health after a recent bad decline due to work (head of department in a sixth form), I have found this book to be a really useful companion on the trip, alongside journalling and listening to podcasts such as Dr Chatterjee’s, Mo Gawdat, and high performance pod. It isn’t mind-blowing in revelations, but that’s not it’s intention (I feel), nor is it condescending or ‘new age’. I found it honest, and that I was nodding along in recognition of my own experiences with what was being said. It is full of simple little tasks and activities to help with achieving the goals YOU set out to achieve, and helping on the path to inner piece. I can see myself dipping back into the book for many years. Highly recommended.
