Based on his father’s bestselling The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Sean Covey applies the same principles to teens, using a vivacious, entertaining style. To keep it fun, Covey writes, he “stuffed it full of cartoons, clever ideas, great quotes, and incredible stories about real teens from all over the world . . . along with a few other surprises.” Did he ever! Flip open to any page and become instantly absorbed in real-life stories of teens who have overcome obstacles to succeed, and step-by-step guides to shifting paradigms, building equity in “relationship bank accounts,” creating action plans, and much more. As a self-acknowledged guinea pig for many of his dad’s theories, Sean Covey is a living example of someone who has taken each of the seven habits to heart: be proactive; begin with the end in mind; put first things first; think win-win; seek first to understand, then to be understood; synergize; and sharpen the saw. He includes a comical section titled “The 7 Habits of Highly Defective Teens,” which includes some, shall we say, counterproductive practices: put first things last; don’t cooperate; seek first to talk, then pretend to listen; wear yourself out . . . Covey’s humorous and up-front style is just light enough to be acceptable to wary teenagers, and down-and-dirty enough to really make a difference.

My son seems to be finding this book easy to read and understand. He finds the honesty fun and worth his time.

I’m an 18 year old girl from Germany and when I first heard about this book, I couldn’t believe how many teens from all over the world praised the “7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens”. I thought: Why not give it a try? As I held the book in my hand, I couldn’t help but wonder about the many lovely details in it: the cartoons (that make you laugh AND think), the quotes from successful achievers (e.g. Sir Edmund Hillary, Mark Twain, Martin Luther King and much more) and the stories from teens that are my age and struggle with the same problems and issues I did- all that inspired me to live a better life and try to apply the 7 habits to my everyday life. What I also liked is Sean Covey’s writing style: it’s funny, inspirational, motivating and moving! It makes you want to change your life and be a better person! I highly recommend this book to any teenager, whether 14 or 19 years old, whether from Africa or from Asia, whether boy or girl! It’s a must-read! 🙂

The book was so tiny, but it is easy to carry anywhere in your bag.
Because of the size, it made me finish reading only in one hour!
I have never finished a book in an hour before in my life and inspired me to read more books 😊

Bought this for my 12 year old son. Being an avid reader already he picked it up with enthusiasm and finds it very resourceful. After reading a few pages he approached me to discuss the issue of drugs and the danger of taking drugs. there were some example real stories of how drugs can ruin one’s life. I haven’t read enough to provide an in depth review but from first impressions I find it very resourceful and encouraging teenagers to be a better version of themselves , for example there are 15 things that a teenager needs to do and one of the few that my son mentioned to me was he had to volunteer to help someone…. anything that encourages my son to be less selfish/self centred earns points in my book! I will try to read a few chapters with him as well and discuss the issues that come with teenagerhood. overall I would recommend this book to anyone with teenager in their lives. The print is quite small but it wouldn’t put me off buying this book.

This is a fantastic book for teenagers to have and to read …. my daughter may be a bit young but she dips into some of it …. I have read it and wished I had had this as a teenager … very positive and empowering for both girls and boys ….for both their present ups and downs as teenagers and for looking into the future …. he talks about looking after ones body .. soul … etc …. great guidelines for if you think you’re ready for sex or not …….I think if you can get your teenager to read this … they will be pleasantly surprised and as I said . empowered ……

I cant give you an in-sight into what this book is about I have never read it. But it engaged and inspired my child here’s the story. I recently bought this book for my 9yr old daughter because she was being bullied,I typed:how to build a childs self esteem into amazon and this book popped up, I have read 7 habits of highly effective people liked it, saw this one was for teens and thought it was worth a try! I thought it would help her to boost her own self esteem as it has been knocked considerably,
when it arrived she loved the fact that it was tiny and as she said soo cute, this grasped her attention so she started reading it that night, when it came to lights out she reluctantly put it down, when I went to check on her she was reading it under the duvet with a torch.she took it to school the next day and was reading it in quiet time, when she went to get it at the end of the morning she had noticed it had gone missing, and was absolutley heartbroken at the thought that someone had took it, She asked me to get her another one and offered me all of her pocket money, I have never known a book mean that much to her!
I asked her why it was so important that she wanted another book she said because its fun to read, it gives me ideas and makes me feel good about myself! so I have ordered another and this time Im going to read it too, steve coveys book was very interesting and thought provoking but I dont recall it being fun! if this book makes a little girl feel good about herself it is worth every penny

The delivery was poor left out in the rain book had to be dried with tissues inbetween each page for about 70 pages – hard book to get around if you have a short attention span, haven’t managed to read much

I read this book nearly 20 years ago when it first came out and this addition has been nicely updated. Sean is the son of Stephen Covey who wrote the hugely successful ‘7 Habits of Highly Successful People’ which I always wanted to read but it is pure text. This version, is full of cartoons, spaces to write, reflections and stories, and is the same 7 habits, so if learning by reading isn’t your thing, give this version a go! Sure the stories are from kids at high school but the principles are the same. Grown ups still have work obligations to knuckle down to, careers to work for, social events to attend, social groups to navigate so the same advice applies. I always enjoy dipping into this book. There really is something for everyone (and I am very middle aged now!)
