No Spin: My Autobiography
‘My story, without the spin.’
From the start of his glittering career in 1992, to his official retirement from all formats of the game in 2013, Shane Warne had long desired to tell his incredible story without compromise. No Spin is that very story. It offers a compelling intimate voice, true insight and a pitch-side seat to one of cricket’s finest eras, making this one of the ultimate must-have sports autobiographies.
Shane was not only one of the greatest cricket legends: he was as close as the game had since Botham to a maverick genius on the field and a true rebel spirit off it, who always gave audiences what they wanted. Despite being the talismanic thorn in England’s side for nearly two decades of regular Ashes defeats, he was also much loved in the UK where he played cricket for Hampshire. He was also a much-admired figure in India and South Africa.
Alongside his mesmerising genius as a bowler, Shane was often a controversial figure, and in this book he talks with brutal honesty about some of the most challenging times in his life as a player. Honest, thoughtful, fearless and loved by millions, Shane was always his own man and this book is a testament to his brilliant career.

Nomad at Home: Designing the home more traveled
Nomad at Home dissects the desire to wander the globe from the point of view of the design-led traveller, those for whom ‘it is a better thing to travel hopefully than to arrive’.
‘There are few countries I have visited without consulting the local real estate agent’s window or poring over the free property magazine. Whether in Puglia or Provence, I am already imagining my new life there; the basket I’ll carry to market, the dress I’ll change into for an apéro, the flea market at which I will buy my furniture, the secret cove where I’ll swim.’
In Nomad at Home, compulsive wanderer Hilary Robertson showcases 10 unique locations and tells the stories of different nomadic tribes: the Adopters, who have left home forever and made a life elsewhere, as well as the Escapists, always on the move, with a base in two, three or maybe even four locations. Then there are the Serial Wanderers, who simply absorb the DNA of any given destination and bring it all back home; creating Provence in Pittsburgh with ingredients gathered on their travels. There are more ways than one of satisfying a wandering eye. As well as offering inspiration from homes all over the globe, Nomad at Home also contains champion shopper Hilary’s nomadic sourcebook, which allows readers to hit the ground shopping in destinations all over the world, with an address book for every country covered, every story told.

None of You Shall Be Spared
It’s coming for all of us.
Shirley Jackson and World Fantasy Award-winning author Brian Evenson has become one of the defining voices of contemporary horror. His sparse, inventive and intimate style has left a permanent impression on the landscape of dark fiction. Praised by Peter Straub for placing himself “furthest out on the sheerest, least sheltered narrative precipice”, heralded by legends such as George Saunders and R. L. Stine, and beloved by readers of literary fiction and horror alike, there are few authors who bring so much to the table.
This brilliant collection contains twenty of his most spectacular short stories never put into a collection before and includes three brand new tales. In trademark Evenson fashion, one can feel a palpable connection to the yearnings, fears, and losses that his characters suffer. From the terror of being stalked by a man you thought you’d killed, to the desperate hope for the return of a loved one, each story is woven from deep imagination, sincere emotion, and the unblinking examination of everything dark that surrounds us.
These stories will enthrall you. They will leave a bit of themselves within you, and you will leave a bit of yourself within them. No one is safe from the web Evenson weaves, and none of you shall be spared.
Brian Evenson is the author of a dozen books of fiction, most recently the story collection The Glassy, Burning Floor of Hell (2021) and the Weird West microcollection Black Bark (2023). His collection Song for the Unraveling of the World (2019) won the Shirley Jackson Award and the World Fantasy Award and was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times’ Ray Bradbury Prize for Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Speculative Fiction. Previous books have won the American Library Association’s RUSA Award and the International Horror Guild Award, and have been finalists for the Edgar Award. He is the recipient of three O. Henry Prizes, an NEA fellowship, and a Guggenheim Award. His work has been translated into more than a dozen languages. He lives in Los Angeles and teaches at CalArts.

Nora’s Dinners
Tired of all the junk food your children are eating? Want to get them helping out in the kitchen? Nora’s Dinners is a new generation cookbook to inspire 7-12-year-olds to cook healthy food, teaching basic cookery skills and focusing on having fun.
Nora Sands is the outrageous, loveable, no-nonsense dinner lady who shot to fame in Jamie Oliver’s TV series, ‘Jamie’s School Dinners’. Despite being about British school food, impressively the programme has now been broadcast in 23 countries.
Armed with newfound confidence and a list of ingredients she couldn’t pronounce, Nora became passionate about getting kids interested in cooking at home, rather than relying on unhealthy and unsociable ready-meals. Her recipes draw on her favourite childhood foods, the meals she prepared with her own children, and the foods she discovered while working with Jamie. Nora’s Dinners is full of recipes for delicious (and well-balanced) breakfasts, lunches and dinners as well as fun options for tasty treats. Jamie Oliver himself provides a foreword.
With special “pick ‘n’ mix” sections featured throughout, kids can invent their own creations and customise their meals using a basic recipe, like pizza with exciting and healthy toppings, or colourful, delicious salad (yes, they will eat it). The emphasis is on learning different cooking techniques, eating a balanced (but never boring) diet, having fun, and getting friends and family involved.
Peppered with wonderful and often hilarious anecdotes, this is a book written specifically for kids. Although some recipes require adult help or supervision, children will be able to follow each recipe on their own The introduction outlines basic nutrition, safety & food hygiene, and explains cooking techniques in language geared to get kids learning. Instructions throughout are kept simple, with the absolute beginner in mind.
So put your feet up – the kids are making dinner tonight!

Nordic Religions in the Viking Age (The Middle Ages Series)
The popular image of the Viking as a horn-helmeted berserker plying the ocean in a dragon-headed long boat is firmly fixed in history. Imagining Viking “conquerors” as much more numerous, technologically superior, and somehow inherently more warlike than their neighbors has overshadowed the cooperation and cultural exchange which characterized much of the Viking Age. In actuality, the Norse explorers and traders were players in a complex exchange of technology, customs, and religious beliefs between the ancient pre-Christian societies of northern Europe and the Christian-dominated nations surrounding the Mediterranean.
DuBois examines Anglo-Saxon, Celtic, and Mediterranean traditions to locate significant Nordic parallels in conceptions of supernatural beings, cults of the dead, beliefs in ghosts, and magical practices. These beliefs were actively held alongside Christianity for many years, and were finally incorporated into the vernacular religious practice. The Icelandic sagas reflect this complex process in their inclusion of both Christian and pagan details.
This work differs from previous examinations in its inclusion of the Christian thirteenth century as part of the evolution of Nordic religions from localized pagan cults to adherents of a larger Roman faith.
Thomas DuBois unravels for the first time the history of the Nordic religions in the Viking Age and shows how these ancient beliefs and their oral traditions incorporated both a myriad of local beliefs and aspects of foreign religions, most notably Christianity.Read more

Normal Women
New mother Dani has a lot going on. She’s just moved back to her hometown, where her father was once known as the Garbage King; she’s fed up of not being a manicure-sporting, perfectly coiffed Normal Woman; and most of all, she’s worried that her seemingly healthy husband, Clark, will drop dead, leaving her and her new baby Lotte destitute.
And then Dani discovers The Temple. Ostensibly a yoga center, The Temple and its guardian, Renata, are committed to helping people reach their full potential. And if that sometimes requires sex work, so be it. Finally, Dani has found something she could be good at, even great at – meaningful work that will protect her and Lotte from poverty, and provide true economic independence from Clark. But just as she’s preparing to embrace this opportunity, Renata disappears, leaving Dani to step into another role entirely – detective.
Darkly comic, sharply witty and fiercely smart, Normal Women asks how our societies truly value female labour – and what independence really means.

In this ambitious and ground-breaking book, she tells the story of our nation over 900 years, but for the very first time women – some fifty per cent of the population – are no longer invisible in this history of England, but are at its beating heart.
Using research skills honed in her work as one of our foremost historical novelists, Gregory trawled through court records to find highway women, beggars and shepherdesses, through newspapers and diaries to find murderers and brides, housewives and pirates, female husbands and hermits. The ‘normal women’ you will meet in her pages went to war, ploughed the fields, campaigned, wrote, and loved. They rode in jousts, flew Spitfires, issued their own currency and built ships, corn mills and houses as part of their everyday lives They committed crimes, or treason, worshipped many gods, cooked and nursed, invented things and rioted. A lot. They built our society to be as diverse and varied as the women themselves. They are there in the archives – if you look – and they made our history.
‘You’ll lose count of the number of things you learn about women and their skewed place in history as you read Philippa Gregory’s stunning Normal Women … the book reframes the past … an essential read’ INDEPENDENT, FIVE-STAR REVIEW

Northern Ireland: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions)
From the Plantation of Ulster in the seventeenth century to the entry into peace talks in the late twentieth century the Northern Irish people have been engaged in conflict – Catholic against Protestant, Republican against Unionist. The traumas of violence in the Northern Ireland Troubles have cast a long shadow. For many years, this appeared to be an intractable conflict with no pathway out. Mass mobilisations of people and dramatic political crises punctuated a seemingly endless succession of bloodshed. When in the 1990s and early 21st century, peace was painfully built, it brought together unlikely rivals, making Northern Ireland a model for conflict resolution internationally. But disagreement about the future of the province remains, and for the first time in decades one can now seriously speak of a democratic end to the Union between Northern Ireland and Great Britain as a foreseeable possibility. The Northern Ireland problem remains a fundamental issue as the United Kingdom recasts its relationship with Europe and the world. In this completely revised edition of his Very Short Introduction Marc Mulholland explores the pivotal moments in Northern Irish history – the rise of republicanism in the 1800s, Home Rule and the civil rights movement, the growth of Sinn Fein and the provisional IRA, and the DUP, before bringing the story up to date, drawing on newly available memoirs by paramilitary militants to offer previously unexplored perspectives, as well as recent work on Nothern Irish gender relations. Mulholland also includes a new chapter on the state of affairs in 21st Century Northern Ireland, considering the question of Irish unity in the light of both Brexit and the approaching anniversary of the 1921 partition, and drawing new lessons for the future.
ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Our expert authors combine facts, analysis, perspective, new ideas, and enthusiasm to make interesting and challenging topics highly readable.

Not in the Best of Health: The forthright and entertaining memoirs of an NHS paediatrician
The NHS is facing the greatest crisis since its inception in 1948. One of the UK’s most beloved institutions has been brought to its knees through underfunding, bad management and political meddling. Morale has slumped so low in 2022 that more than half of advertised consultant physician posts in England and Wales are unfilled. Nurses are leaving the profession in droves, and those who remain have voted for a nationwide strike. Piling on the misery, reports by Donna Ockenden and General Sir Gordon Messenger expose alarming flaws in healthcare. How did it come to this? Not in the Best of Health describes a medical career stretching from that of a fledgling student, to that of a worn out and disillusioned senior consultant paediatrician. In Charles Godden’s sharply observed memoir, stories of sick children and those who treated them are described with candour, humour and insight gained over three decades working in hospitals stretching from Papua New Guinea to the UK.
If you want to know why the NHS is failing, and what might be done to save this most treasured institution, read this book.
EARLY REVIEWS
‘Not in the Best of Health will entertain and shock. This is an outstanding medical narrative from Godden who records a life in paediatrics and pulls no punches documenting his experiences of clinical medicine and the frustrations of NHS administration. His integrity and experience shine throughout with equal amounts of humour and poignancy.
His clinical scenarios are elegantly described such that lay readers will completely understand. This book should be read by anyone with even a passing interest in medical literature or with aspirations to work with children in the medical sphere.’ – Professor Neil Wilson MB BS DCH FRCPCH FSCAI‘Spanning three decades of reorganisation, over-management, declining consultant autonomy and sleepless nights this inimitable memoir shines a sharp light on our parlous NHS. Patient focussed and moving, funny but serious,
it is a must read.’ – Professor of primary care (general practice) Anthony Harnden‘WARNING! This is an honest reflection written with great humour and enviable humility of a career in medicine. Toe curling in places, totally relatable, and an essential read for those in, around, or interested in healthcare.’ – Dr Craig Marshall, Intensive Care Medicine Registrar
‘Whilst maintaining his effortless wit, Charles presents an honest account into the occasional highs and tragic lows of an NHS paediatrician. I really enjoyed the read and it certainly highlights the struggles I have ahead of me!’ – Robbie Hill, a first year medical student
‘I rarely read medical books for recreation – too much of a busman’s holiday. However, perhaps because we both qualified in 1983 and are both paediatricians, I found many of Charles Godden’s recollections from the front line resonated with me. His views are sometimes provocative and some readers may differ with his forthright opinions but many of the personal tragedies and uplifting successes ring very true.’ – Professor Sir Terence Stephenson, DM, FRCPCH, FRCP, Past chair of GMC and past president Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health

Not the End of the World: How We Can Be the First Generation to Build a Sustainable Planet
Feeling anxious, powerless or confused about the future of our planet? This book will transform how you see our biggest environmental problems — and how we can solve them
‘Truly essential’ MARGARET ATWOOD * ‘Invigorating, inspiring, often surprising’ DAVID WALLACE-WELLS * ‘Eye-opening and essential’ BILL GATES
We are bombarded by doomsday headlines that tell us the soil won’t be able to support crops, fish will vanish from our oceans, that we should reconsider having children.
But in this bold, radically hopeful book, data scientist Hannah Ritchie argues that if we zoom out, a very different picture emerges. The data shows we’ve made so much progress on these problems, and so fast, that we could be on track to achieve true sustainability for the first time in history.
Packed with the latest research, practical guidance and enlightening graphics, this book will make you rethink almost everything you’ve been told about the environment, from the virtues of eating locally and living in the countryside, to the evils of overpopulation, plastic straws and palm oil. It will give you the tools to understand what works, what doesn’t and what we urgently need to focus on so we can leave a sustainable planet for future generations.
These problems are big. But they are solvable. We are not doomed. We can build a better future for everyone. Let’s turn that opportunity into reality.
‘I find it hard to express how much I love this book’ RUTGER BREGMAN * ‘An unmissable myth-busting book to save our planet – read it’ TIM SPECTOR
