The forgotten book that defined Advertising as salesmanship in print… finally available!
If you’re familiar with the marketing masterpiece titled Scientific Advertising you’re probably familiar with its author as well, Claude Hopkins.
John E. Kennedy, Albert Lasker, and Hopkins worked together at Lord & Thomas, the #1 advertising firm at the time in America. Together they completely reshaped the way the world advertised, using a scientific approach to determine what worked best and what was worth investing in.
But while Hopkins’ book became a must for all the marketing experts and the advertisers around the world during the past and the current century, Kennedy’s book is still a hidden gem that needs to be discovered by the international marketing community.
This fresh, annotated edition of the untouched original manuscript will serve this purpose.
Furthermore, this book will help you face the biggest challenge Kennedy, Hopkins, and Lakser had to face at their time: believability.
«The History of Advertising could never be written without first place in it being given to
John E. Kennedy, for every copywriter throughout the length and breadth of this land, is today being guided by the principles he laid down.»Albert Lasker

Reassembling the Social: An Introduction to Actor-Network-Theory (Clarendon Lectures in Management Studies)
Reassembling the Social is a fundamental challenge from one of the world’s leading social theorists to how we understand society and the “social”. Bruno Latour’s contention is that the word “social” as used by Social Scientists has become laden with assumptions to the point where it has become a misnomer. When the adjective is applied to a phenomenon, it is used to indicate a stabilized state of affairs, a bundle of ties that in due course may be used to account for another phenomenon. Latour also finds the word used as if it described a type of material, in a comparable way to an adjective such as “wooden” or “steely”.Rather than simply indicating what is already assembled together, it is now used in a way that makes assumptions about the nature of what is assembled. It has become a word that designates two distinct things: a process of assembling: and a type of material, distinct from others. Latour shows why “the social” cannot be thought of as a kind of material or domain, and disputes attempts to provide a “social explanation” of other states of affairs. While these attempts have been productive (and probably necessary) in the past, the very success of the social sciences mean that they are largely no longer so. At the present stage it is no longer possible to inspect the precise constituents entering the social domain. Latour returns to the original meaning of “the social” to redefine the notion and allow it to trace connections again. It will then be possible to resume the traditional goal of the social sciences, but using more refined tools. Drawing on his extensive work examining the “assemblages” of nature, Latour finds it necessary to scrutinize thoroughly the exact content of what is assembled under the umbrella of Society.

Rebound: A standalone, second chance romance (Manhattan Ruthless)
They say love is all you need.
They’re wrong.Sometimes, no matter how much you want to stop it from happening, you have to watch the person you love most in the world slip through your fingers. Even when it feels entirely wrong, you can still find yourself sitting in a lawyer’s office with your spouse, negotiating the terms of your divorce.
It doesn’t matter that she’s the only woman I’ve ever loved. Or that we both meant it when we promised each other forever. It matters even less that she can still make my knees weak with nothing more than a smile. None of that is enough to fix the things we’ve spent a lifetime together breaking.
We were meant to be together but destined to be apart. So we’re doing just that—separating our joined lives into two distinct, single ones. An amicable uncoupling. Or so it appears on the surface.
Only it’s not so easy to extricate yourself from someone who’s been a part of your life for two decades. It’s even harder to deny the physical attraction that’s still there, simmering underneath the surface. If only we didn’t have so much baggage, maybe we could enjoy some no-strings fun to take the edge off the whole divorce situation.
That thought is exactly how I wind up doing the unthinkable: having an affair.
With my wife.
Knee-deep in lawyer negotiations, we’re sneaking around behind everyone’s backs. Secret hotel meetups, burner phones, lying to my family, the works. And despite the physical attraction—and the way she still moans my name—the divorce is going ahead. We’ve made too many mistakes to fix them now.Or have we? Because what’s happening between us seems like it surpasses the boundaries of a physical affair. What if this is our chance to fix everything we got so very wrong the first time around?
With my family on one side and my wife on the other, I’m torn between what I should do and what I want to do. Torn between my head and my heart.
No matter what I decide, one thing is for certain: There is no such thing as no-strings-attached when the object of your infatuation is also the love of your life.
Rebound is a standalone second chance billionaire romance. With a whole lot of angst and a HEA guaranteed.

Rebound: Train Your Mind to Bounce Back Stronger from Sports Injuries
Written by a leading mental skills coach and contributing editor to Runner’s World (US), this is a practical guide to building the psychological resilience that athletes need to recover from injury and rebound stronger.
Injuries affect every athlete, from the elite Olympian to the weekend racer. In the moment, a traumatic crash, a torn muscle, or a stress fracture can feel like the most devastating event possible. While some athletes are destroyed by the experience, others emerge from their recovery better, stronger, and more confident than ever.
The key to a swifter, stronger comeback is the use of mental skills: psychological tools that enable an athlete to take control of their recovery and ultimately use the experience to their advantage. Injury and other setbacks are inevitable – but with training, overcoming them skillfully and confidently is possible.
This book will provide a clear, compelling explanation of psychological recovery from injury and a practical guide to building mental resilience. Weaving together personal narratives from star athletes, scientific research, and the specialized clinical expertise of mental skills coach Carrie Jackson Cheadle, it will contain more than 45 Mental Skills and Drills that athletes can use at every phase of their recovery process. These same strategies can help athletes who aren’t currently injured reduce their vulnerability to injury, and enable any individual to reach new heights within their sport and beyond.

Rebuilding Milo: The Lifter’s Guide to Fixing Common Injuries and Building a Strong Foundation for Enhancing Performance
Every athlete who spends time in the weight room eventually deals with pain/injury that leaves them frustrated and unable to reach their highest potential. Every athlete ought to have the ability to take the first steps at addressing these minor injuries. They shouldn’t have to wait weeks for a doctor’s appointment, only to be prescribed pain medications and told to ‘take two weeks off lifting’ or, even worse, to ‘stop lifting so heavy.’ Dr. Aaron Horschig knows your pain and frustration. Hes been there. For over a decade, Dr. Horschig has been a competitive weightlifter, and he understands how discouraging it is to tweak your back three weeks out from a huge weightlifting competition, to have knee pain limit your ability to squat heavy for weeks, and to suffer from chronic shoulder issues that keep you from reaching your goals. Rebuilding Milo is the culmination of Dr. Horschig’s life’s work as a sports physical therapist, certified strength and conditioning specialist, and Olympic weightlifting coach. It contains all of the knowledge he has amassed over the past decade while helping some of the best athletes in the world. Now he wants to share that knowledge with you. This book, designed by a strength athlete for anyone who spends time in the weight room, is the solution to your struggles with injury and pain. Rebus: The Early Years: Knots And Crosses, Hide And Seek and Tooth And Nail
‘Ian Rankin is a genius’ Lee Child
Knots and Crosses
The very first Rebus novel from the No.1 bestselling author.
‘And in Edinburgh of all places. I mean, you never think of that sort of thing happening in Edinburgh, do you…?’
‘That sort of thing’ is the brutal abduction and murder of two young girls. And now a third is missing, presumably gone to the same sad end. Detective Sergeant John Rebus, smoking and drinking too much, his own young daughter spirited away south by his disenchanted wife, is one of many policemen hunting the killer.
And then the messages begin to arrive: knotted string and matchstick crosses – taunting Rebus with pieces of a puzzle only he can solve.
Hide and Seek
Inspector Rebus returns in the second novel from ‘Britain’s No.1 crime writer’ (DAILY MIRROR).
A junkie lies dead in an Edinburgh squat, spreadeagled, cross-like on the floor, between two burned-down candles, a five-pointed star daubed on the wall above.
Just another dead addict – until John Rebus begins to chip away at the indifference, treachery, deceit and sleaze that lurks behind the facade of the Edinburgh familiar to tourists.
Only Rebus seems to care about a death which looks more like a murder every day, about a seductive danger he can almost taste, appealing to the darkest corners of his mind…
Tooth and Nail
Rebus is back, this time on the tail of a serial killer known as the Wolfman…
They call him the Wolfman – because he takes a bite out of his victims and because they found the first victim in the East End’s lonely Wolf Street. Scotland Yard are anxious to find the killer and Inspector Rebus is drafted in to help. But his Scotland Yard opposite number, George Flight, isn’t happy at yet more interference, and Rebus finds himself dealing with racial prejudice as well as the predations of a violent maniac.
When Rebus is offered a serial killer profile of the Wolfman by an attractive female psychologist, it’s too good an opportunity to miss. But in finding an ally, he may have given his enemies an easy means of attack.

Recognition in the Age of Social Media
The desire to be recognized is a basic human trait. In contemporary society, social media platforms play a key role in defining how processes of recognition take shape. To post, to like, or to comment have become daily practices of expressing individual recognition. On the one hand, social media platforms make it easier for individuals to be visible and to be recognized; on the other hand, they control the structure of these dynamics.
This timely and original book reflects on processes of recognition on social media platforms. Revisiting traditional discussions on recognition theory, Bruno Campanella investigates how the field of media and communication has used the concept and poses new questions raised by the omnipresence of social media. He argues that existing work does not fully explore the impact of platforms on contemporary processes of recognition. Individuals must learn new skills to make themselves visible online, but how to achieve this changes as a consequence of the role played by platforms: what is seen depends on decisions taken by their algorithms, which impacts how individuals and social groups are valued in society.
Recognition in the Age of Social Media is a key contribution to the field, and a must-read for students and scholars of media and communication, sociology, and politics.

Reconstruction Updated Edition: America’s Unfinished Revolution, 1863-1877 (Harper Perennial Modern Classics)
From the “preeminent historian of Reconstruction” (New York Times Book Review), the prize-winning classic work on the post-Civil War period that shaped modern America.
Eric Foner’s “masterful treatment of one of the most complex periods of American history” (New Republic) redefined how the post-Civil War period was viewed.
Reconstruction chronicles the way in which Americans—black and white—responded to the unprecedented changes unleashed by the war and the end of slavery. It addresses the ways in which the emancipated slaves’ quest for economic autonomy and equal citizenship shaped the political agenda of Reconstruction; the remodeling of Southern society and the place of planters, merchants, and small farmers within it; the evolution of racial attitudes and patterns of race relations; and the emergence of a national state possessing vastly expanded authority and committed, for a time, to the principle of equal rights for all Americans.
This “smart book of enormous strengths” (Boston Globe) remains the standard work on the wrenching post-Civil War period—an era whose legacy still reverberates in the United States today.

Recreating Titanic and Her Sisters: A Visual History
On the night of 14–15 April 1912, Titanic, a brand-new, supposedly unsinkable ship, the largest and most luxurious vessel in the world at the time, collided with an iceberg and sank on her maiden voyage. Of the 2,208 people on board, only 712 were saved. The rest perished in the icy-cold waters of the North Atlantic, and the tragedy has fascinated and perplexed the world ever since.
This stunning book tells the story of not just the Titanic, but also of its sister ships, Olympic and Britannic. Maritime experts J. Kent Layton, Tad Fitch, and Bill Wormstedt tell the stories of these legendary liners with a compelling narrative alongside original artwork from up-and-coming artists, bringing to life the design, construction and service of the ships together with the wrecks of the ill-fated Titanic and Britannic.
From the cold, starry night when Titanic collided with her iceberg to the tragic wartime loss of Britannic and the impressive reliability of the long-lived Olympic, this cinematic and immersive new study captures all of the glory and drama of the Olympic-class age and allows readers to visualise Titanic and her sisters like never before.

Red Africa: Reclaiming Revolutionary Black Politics (Salvage Editions)
Red Africa makes the case for a revolutionary Black politics inspired by Marxist anti-colonial struggles in Africa. Kevin Ochieng Okoth revisits historical moments when Black radicalism was defined by international solidarity in the struggle against capitalist-imperialism, that together help us to navigate the complex histories of the Black radical tradition. Hechallenges common misconceptions about national liberation, showing that the horizon of national liberation was not limited to the nation-building projects of post-independence governments. While African socialists sought to distance themselves from Marxism and argued for a ‘third way’ socialism rooted in ‘traditional African culture’ the intellectual and political tradition Okoth calls ‘Red Africa’ showed that Marxism and Black radicalism were never incompatible. The revolutionary Black politics of Eduardo Mondlane, Amílcar Cabral, Walter Rodney and Andrée Blouin gesture toward a decolonised future that never materialised. We might yet build something new from the ruins of national liberation, something which clings onto the utopian promise of freedom and refuses to let go. Red Africa is not simply an exercise in nostalgia, it is a political project that hopes to salvage what remains of this tradition―which has been betrayed, violently suppressed, or erased―and to build from it a Black revolutionary politics capable of imagining new futures out of the uncertain present.

Red Devils: The Trailblazers of the Paras in World War Two
‘Riveting . . . Full of daring action, standout characters and cutting edge operations, this is unputdownable’ Damien Lewis
‘Gripping and authoritative. Family men, circus performers, solicitors, communists, and reactionaries all fought together and shed blood for their country – a true and moving story of war’ Andy McNab
————————————
Their German enemies called them the ‘Red Devils’. Montgomery described them as ‘men apart – every man an Emperor’. The cards they received on qualifying began: ‘You are the elite of the British army’.
The Parachute Regiment.
In this gripping, authorized account, bestselling historian Mark Urban tells the story of the wartime creation and development of Britain’s elite airborne infantry – who ranged from circus performers to solicitors, policemen to gravediggers, Christians and Jews to communists.
Through the fates of six men – including recently widowed Geoffrey Pine-Coffin, who had to leave his little boy at home to head to the front, and Mike Lewis, whose photographs became iconic images of war – Urban vividly shows what it took to succeed in this new regiment. All six men would shed blood for their country in daring actions at D-Day, Arnhem and across the Second World War; two would not survive, and one would face disgrace.
Based on deep archival research, British and German sources and new material from the men’s families, and giving overdue recognition to the North African campaign, Urban’s unvarnished history is a compelling and moving depiction of the highs and lows of battle.

This is the story of my life about how I was homeless. But because I have a talent for singing, I wrote a few songs and went around London selling them, until I discovered the mystery of a customer’s mind. So, I’m not penning down theory lessons taught by another teacher or philosopher, but documenting my own
original knowledge and experience of selling products directly to one person at a time in the UK. Mostly from Westminster to Buckingham Palace, Mayfair to Knightsbridge, Knightsbridge to Soho, Leicester Square to Oxford Circus, London Bridge to Waterloo, City of
London and many other places before people nicknamed me the Red Lion of Sales. Because I was so good at selling my product (music).
