Royals and Rebels: The Rise and Fall of the Sikh Empire
In late-eighteenth-century India, the glory of the Mughal emperors was fading, and ambitious newcomers seized power, changing the political map forever. Enter the legendary Maharajah Ranjit Singh, whose Sikh Empire stretched throughout northwestern India into Afghanistan and Tibet. Priya Atwal shines fresh light on this long-lost kingdom, looking beyond its founding father to restore the queens and princes to the story of this empire’s spectacular rise and fall. She brings to life a self-made ruling family, inventively fusing Sikh, Mughal and European ideas of power, but eventually succumbing to gendered family politics, as the Sikh Empire fell to its great rival in the new India: the British. Royals and Rebels is a fascinating tale of family, royalty and the fluidity of power, set in a dramatic global era when new stars rose and upstart empires clashed.Read more

The Learning Game: Teaching Kids to Think for Themselves, Embrace Challenge, and Love Learning
How did we conclude that the best way to prepare kids for the future is to cluster them into classrooms by age and grade, forcing them to learn the same things, at the same time and pace, seven hours a day, five days a week, for twelve years? We trust the school system to prepare our kids for the future. We get excited when they get good grades, or disappointed if they don’t. But we rarely stop to question whether school is teaching our children the right things in the right way.
Kids could get good at playing the game of school, but are they really learning?
Teacher-turned-edupreneur Ana Lorena Fábrega, known by her students as Ms. Fab, invites us to rethink education.
In The Learning Game, she reveals how traditional schooling has gone wrong, and proposes a series of actionable strategies to help kids learn.
What if we guide kids to think for themselves?
Should we encourage kids to take risks and tackle projects of their own?
How do we help kids learn to love learning?Answering these questions and many more, The Learning Game will arm you with practical tools to design a new approach to learning―one that leaves behind the game of school and prepares your kids for the game of life.

The Learning Rainforest: Great Teaching in Real Classrooms
What really stunned me about this book is the way that Tom has taken the research evidence that does exist, and woven it into a powerful vision of how education can transform lives, even in the most challenging settings. I know of many books that do a great job of summarizing the research on reading, on memory, on assessment, on feedback, and so on. I do not know of a single other book that addresses so well all the threads that have to be woven together to create great schools, in such a readable way.” – Dylan WiliamThe Learning Rainforest captures different elements of our understanding and experience of the art and science of teaching. It is a celebration of great teaching and the intellectual and personal rewards that it brings. It’s aimed at all teachers; busy people working in complex environments with little time to spare. The core of the book is a guide to making teaching both effective and manageable using a three-part structure: establishing conditions; building knowledge; exploring possibilities. It provides an accessible summary of key contemporary evidence-based ideas about teaching, curriculum and assessment and the debates that all teachers should be engaging in. It’s packed with strategies for making great teaching attainable in the context of real schools. The author’s ideas about what constitutes great teaching are drawn from his experiences as a teacher and a school leader over 30 years, alongside everything he has read and the debates he’s engaged with during that time.

The Legal Recognition of Sign Languages: Advocacy and Outcomes Around the World
This book presents the first ever comprehensive overview of national laws recognising sign languages, the impacts they have and the advocacy campaigns which led to their creation. It comprises 18 studies from communities across Europe, the US, South America, Asia and New Zealand. They set sign language legislation within the national context of language policies in each country and show patterns of intersection between language ideologies, public policy and deaf communities’ discourses. The chapters are grounded in a collaborative writing approach between deaf and hearing scholars and activists involved in legislative campaigns. Each one describes a deaf community’s expectations and hopes for legal recognition and the type of sign language legislation achieved. The chapters also discuss the strategies used in achieving the passage of the legislation, as well as an account of barriers confronted and surmounted (or not) in the legislative process. The book will be of interest to language activists in the fields of sign language and other minority languages, policymakers and researchers in deaf studies, sign linguistics, sociolinguistics, human rights law and applied linguistics.

The Legal Team of the Future: Law+ Skills
The legal profession needs more than law. Whether you are a student, a law school, a university, a law firm or an in-house legal team, The Legal Team of the Future is the definitive guide to understanding and building the holistic skills required of those working in legal services now and in the future. Highlighting the importance of multidisciplinary teams working collaboratively to solve legal problems, the book introduces a ‘Law+’ model for the profession, comprising sixteen skills across four quadrants: Law+People, Law+Business, Law+Change and Law+Technology. As well as outlining each of the skills, the book explains how to build those skills as an individual, a law firm, an in-house team, a university or a law school. Designed for both lawyers and business professionals working in law, The Legal Team of the Future dispels the myth that the ‘lawyer of the future’ is solely responsible for the future of the profession, instead focusing on diverse individuals working within their own specializations. The Law+ model is more than an academic theory, containing real-world examples and case studies and devised by an expert in legal innovation who is still working in the field on a daily basis. This book is the guide you need to navigate the future of the legal profession and to stay ahead of the pack in delivering legal services to clients.Read more

The Legal Tech Ecosystem: Innovation, Advancement & the Future of Law Practice
“A leading voice in the world of legal technology, Colin Levy has written a thoughtful, wide-ranging, and invaluable guide to the increasingly important field of legal tech.” –David Lat, founder, Above the LawThe legal landscape is evolving at an unprecedented pace, with the seismic shifts of recent years demanding a fresh perspective on the role of technology and innovation within the legal profession. The Legal Tech Ecosystem delves into this essential transformation, shedding light on the crucial interplay between law and technology in today’s complex world.
At its core, this book addresses the profound changes unfolding in the legal domain, driven by macro-economic forces. These changes have placed an ever-increasing burden on legal departments to accomplish more with fewer resources. A quartet of pillars—the explosive growth of regulations, the challenges posed by globalization, the convergence of risk dimensions, and the pressure on corporate profits—has created an environment where legal professionals must adapt swiftly to succeed.
Author Colin S. Levy, an esteemed legal practitioner with diverse experiences spanning publishing, education, technology, and cyber security, serves as an invaluable guide through this dynamic landscape. His unique insights, honed across industries and organizational scales, offer readers a deep understanding of the intricate nexus where law, technology, and business converge.
While emerging legal technology has provided effective solutions to these challenges, The Legal Tech Ecosystem emphasizes that technology alone is not sufficient. Legal departments must undergo a fundamental digital transformation, rethinking their structures, processes, and approaches to truly capitalize on the benefits technology brings. The real value lies in data—capturing it, analyzing it, and deriving transformative insights from it.
Colin has emerged as a leading thinker in this space, sharing his perspective through podcasts, writings, and insightful commentary. His expertise illuminates the path forward for legal professionals seeking to thrive in this era of change. Agility, flexibility, and innovation will define success, and this book is the perfect companion for those seeking to embrace the future with confidence.
As the legal profession evolves, those equipped with the knowledge and insights provided by The Legal Tech Ecosystem will be at the forefront of this transformation. The changing legal environment demands proactive engagement, and this book, curated by one of the field’s luminaries, offers the guidance needed to navigate the exciting journey ahead.

The Legend of the Chinese Dragon
In ancient China, the different tribes lived under the protection of benevolent spirits that took the form of animals–fish, ox, bird, horse, and serpent. But, as often happens, the tribes grew envious of each other and began to fight amongst themselves in the names of their spirits. The children decided to declare a war on war by creating a creature that combined the best of all the spirits and would protect all the people. To this day, the dragon is a symbol of peace and plays an especially important role in the celebration of the Chinese New Year. This timely message of cooperation and empowerment makes this book especially appealing to trade and institutional accounts. Communities with significant Chinese populations will also have a special interest in this title. Catherine Louis’ Liu and the Bird was a critical hit with review journals, teachers, and librarians.Read more

The Liberal Politics of Adolf Hitler
It is fifty years in the future and the individual nations of Europe no longer exist. New Democracy rules. Elections are considered divisive and a thing of the past, power has been fully centralised, and cheerful Controllers make the decisions for the good of the masses. Conformity means freedom. Big smiles, easy debt and lots of nice words mask a corporate-driven, closet dictatorship. When special police unit Cool come to take you away they arrive with fresh coffee and blueberry muffins. But resistance groups are fighting back.
In London, ambitious young bureaucrat Rupert Ronsberger uses Suspicion software to identify threats to the system, stumbling across a shocking murder just as Controller Horace is about to arrive in the city. At the same time Kenny Jackson – a member of the outlawed GB45 – leaves a free town in the West Country and heads towards the capital. Despite the best efforts of Cool, the three men are set on a collision course.
The Liberal Politics Of Adolf Hitler predicts a time when the internet is embedded in the human body, having morphed into propaganda/surveillance tool InterZone; correct thinking and a denied censorship crushes individual expression; physical books, audio and film are illegal; the people’s culture is cancelled or sold back to them in distorted forms; and enforced digitisation has seen history edited, deleted and rewritten, so that even the most wicked of individuals can be reinvented.
John King’s dystopian novel imagines a future firmly rooted in the present day, and is a dark satire that merges absurdity and humour with the terrors of a new brand of totalitarianism made possible by Big Tech – a nightmare society that we should see coming.

The Life of a Medical Officer in WWI: The Experiences of Captain Harry Gordon Parker
The Life of a Medical Officer in WW1 documents the experiences of Captain Harry Gordon Parker and provides a rare insight into the conflict that engulfed Europe from 1914-1918. Having joined the Naval Medical Service as a Royal Navy Temporary Surgeon, Parker’s first taste of war was aboard a hospital evacuation ship, which regularly crossed the English Channel, from Southampton to France, picking up casualties from the battle grounds. Somewhat disillusioned with the whole experience, he requested a transfer to the Royal Medical Army Corps and soon found himself transported to the trenches in France. It was here, first serving with the Lancashire Fusiliers and then later as permanent Regimental Medical Officer with the 2nd Manchester’s Regiment, that he spent the remainder of the war, witnessing first-hand the horrors of Passchendaele, Arras and the Somme. Parker’s account not only reveals a record of the conflict, but also encompasses a totality of military life as it impacted on the medical fraternity. From bureaucratic red tape, lack of medical supplies, lice infestations, trench foot and absurd missions where the incompetence of his own side was as dangerous as the enemy, his thoughts are penned with sincerity, the utmost compassion as well as a certain degree of sardonic humour: We went into the trenches for the first time at Givenchy. It snowed heavily, and our rations did not arrive. The Royal Welsh, however, generously shared their rations with our men, who repaid the kindness by (accidentally) shooting one of the Sergeants through the stomach!’. With endorsement from family members, author Lorraine Evans has revised Parker’s notes and scribblings for clarity and added complementary text to provide historical background. The Lifespan Of Islam On Earth: How Much Time Does Islam Have Left On Earth
In more than 15 ahadith found in the Sahih of Imam Bukhari, Sunnan of Imam Abu Dawwud, Jamii of Imam Tirmidhi and others, the prophet (saws) said Islam has a specific lifespan on earth, these Ahadith state Allah gave Islam 1500 years then relatively soon after this He would establish the Hour, we are now in the year 1438 H of the Islamic calendar, this book quotes these Ahadith and discusses them giving specific years for when events are expected to occur according to the prophet Muhammad (saws). Because we can place all the ahadtih of events on a timeline, since the prophet (saws) spoke consistently about events from his time to ours on a year by year or decade by decade basis, we can place names and years for when the events occur, which all leads to one question when will the end come. For muslims there are two “ends” they are waiting for in life, the hour itself and the end of Islam on earth before that time when Allah will take the life of every muslim and lift the Quran from the face of the earth. This book will present not just the ahadith that speak about the lifespan of Islam, but the ahadith in which the prophet (saws) gave a timeline for events in years, such as Imam Mahdi (ra) ruling for 9 years or Isa (as) remaining on earth for 40 years after He (saws) returns, this book will show that both types of Ahadith say the exact same thing about how much time Islam has left.Read more

The Light of Asia
The Light of Asia was published in 1879. The book is renowned as a classic and has been published in various editions and different languages. In this poetic masterpiece, Sir Edwin Arnold tells the life and lessons of Buddha. The man who was to become known as Buddha to the world was born Prince Gautama of India. However, he rejected the wealthy and lavish lifestyle and abandoned all the powers he had gotten when he began his journey to find the importance of life. This poem uncovers Buddha’s life according to the Buddhist point of view, so you don’t need to be a Buddhist to see the value in this wonderful work. As soon as you read about Buddha, you will start discovering your own life. Not just the philosophical part, but because of its poetic form, the story of the dramatic incidents in Buddha’s life is delightful to read.Read more

The Linguistics of British Sign Language: An Introduction
This is the first detailed explanation of the way British Sign Language works and is the product of many years’ experience of research and teaching sign linguistics to deaf and hearing people. It assumes no previous knowledge of linguistics or sign language, and is not structured around traditional headings such as phonology, morphology and syntax. Instead it is set out in such a way as to help learners and their teachers understand the linguistic principles behind the language. There are sections on BSL grammar and also on the use of BSL, including social acceptability in signing, variation, and poetry and humour in BSL. Technical terms and linguistic jargon are kept to a minimum, and the text contains many examples from English, BSL, and other spoken and sign languages. The book is amply illustrated and contains exercises, as well as a reading list for further study. An accompanying 90-minute DVD is available from Talk With Sign Books. The Listening Forest
Published as the culmination of a residency held by Sophie Herxheimer with Fermynwoods Contemporary Art in the East Midlands.
Sophie as an inner-city Londoner was intrigued to swap her familiar streets for a remote cottage in an ancient woodland. Getting lost in tracts of forest in and around the town of Corby inspired a new sequence of poems as well as many drawings and collages. A selection of these appear alongside the bulk of the book’s content: stories collected and drawn live in ink, from members of the public in the area, about the ways we humans relate to nature and the woods.
