Missing (City Streets Mysteries Book 1)
When a woman disappears, a homeless man is the only person who can find her.
On a cold Manchester night, Victor Mitchum and his loyal-ish dog witness something they were never meant to see. Living on the streets has made Victor good at watching people—which is exactly why private investigator Kasper Dąbrowski recruits him to help find a missing woman.
But as Victor watches from the shadows, he realises he has stumbled into something far more dangerous. Working alongside Kasper and his sister, Victor discovers he’s not just tracking kidnappers—he’s watching killers. And now they know someone is watching them.
With time running out for their victims, Victor must rally his unlikely allies—the forgotten people of Manchester’s streets—in a desperate fight for survival. But in a city where the powerful prey on the vulnerable, can a man society has chosen to ignore become the hero these families need?

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Totally different to any mystery series I have read before. I loved the rapport between Victor and Oscar. Lots of excitement with added humour in places. I do hope this is the first of many in the series.

This rather gritty thriller is set in the seedy world of people trafficking, prostitution and female sex workers who are mysteriously disappearing. Victor, a homeless man, helps a brother and sister team of PIs employed to find a women by being an inconspicuous lookout and logging the comings and goings at the dubious Manchester casino which is a front for the operation. Despite the theme, there is some humour in the book in the form of Oscar, Victor’s dog, who was my favourite character in the book. Victor not only talks to Oscar but Oscar talks back to him (in Victor’s head only) and they have some hilarious conversations.
The characters are well drawn and the portrayal of poverty and living conditions for both Victor and the sex workers is spot on.
Personally, I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would. This is book 1 in a set of 2, so you can continue Victor and Oscar’s life in the second one as a separate story. There is an extract to the second book at the end of this one.

Not my usual genre of book. But from the moment I started i couldn’t stop reading it and did it in one day. I loved having a dog feature in it. It gripped you from start to finish.
Looking forward to reading more in this series.
