SIGN LANGUAGE FOR EVERYONE: A Basic Course in Communication with the Deaf
“Listen with your eyes . . . Sign Language is a method of presenting thoughts via pictures made with one’s hands.” People are adaptable. This trait is particularly useful when one of the five senses is weakened and another becomes more acute to compensate for the weakness. So the deaf, when they hear, hear with their eyes. To communicate to the deaf, then, is to translate the speech of the hearing world into the pictures of the seeing world. “It is an amazing truth that Dr. Cathy Rice has had more influence on the ministry to the deaf, through her teaching of Sign Language and getting others to learn and teach it, than anyone else in the world. All around America, I have attended churches that have someone interpreting sermons for the deaf and teaching a class for the deaf. And in most cases, they learned the Sign Language at the Bill Rice Ranch and were taught by Dr. Cathy. I am so glad she has written this book. It is authoritative and important. God bless it.” ?the late Dr. John R. Rice, Sword of the Lord Ministries, Murfreesboro, Tennessee In 1953, the late Bill Rice, along with his wife, Cathy, founded the Bill Rice Ranch in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, as a ministry to deaf individuals. Since then, the Ranch has been the headquarters for ministries reaching the deaf for Christ both in this country and abroad. The Ranch still maintains camp and conference grounds in Tennessee and in Arizona where deaf young people can attend one of several weeks of camp free of charge. Also, the sign language school that Dr. Rice began continues to train people through classes held at the Ranch each year. Well over eight hundred churches have established deaf ministries as a result of training received at the Ranch.Read more

The Linguistics of British Sign Language: An Introduction
This is the first detailed explanation of the way British Sign Language works and is the product of many years’ experience of research and teaching sign linguistics to deaf and hearing people. It assumes no previous knowledge of linguistics or sign language, and is not structured around traditional headings such as phonology, morphology and syntax. Instead it is set out in such a way as to help learners and their teachers understand the linguistic principles behind the language. There are sections on BSL grammar and also on the use of BSL, including social acceptability in signing, variation, and poetry and humour in BSL. Technical terms and linguistic jargon are kept to a minimum, and the text contains many examples from English, BSL, and other spoken and sign languages. The book is amply illustrated and contains exercises, as well as a reading list for further study. An accompanying 90-minute DVD is available from Talk With Sign Books. To find out more, visit http://www.talkwithsign.com/linguistics-british-sign-language-p-741.html.Read more

The Red Sea Rules HB: 10 God-Given Strategies for Difficult Times
Bestselling author Robert Morgan offers ten strategies for dealing with hard times and discouragements in order to move from fear to faith―a divine protocol for handling life. Red Sea Rules has been updated with new study questions.
Life is hard, especially for Christians. It is certain that we will face difficulties and that God will allow them. But just as certain is the fact that the same God who led us in will lead us out. As The Red Sea Rules makes comfortingly clear, He is in control.
Using the Israelites’ story in Exodus 14 as an example, Robert Morgan offers ten sound strategies for moving from fear to faith. Just as Moses and the Israelites became trapped between Pharaoh’s rushing armies and the uncrossable Red Sea, so are we sometimes overwhelmed by life’s problems.
In The Red Sea Rules, readers will learn strategies to:
- Realize that God means for you to be where you are
- Acknowledge your enemy, but keep your eyes on the Lord
- Stay calm and confident, and give God time to work
- View your current crisis as a faith builder for the future
The Red Sea Rules reveals that even in the midst of seemingly impossible situations, God promises to make a way for us. His loving guidance will protect us through danger, illness, marital strife, financial problems, or whatever challenges Satan places in our path.
The Red Sea Rules also is available in Spanish, reglas del Mar Rojo.

Sea Monsters: Prehistoric Predators of the Deep
In prehistoric times there existed creatures bigger and often fiercer than dinosaurs, whose exploits have inspired more terrifying legends than any other group of animals. Their watery home has kept them hidden from view – until now. Following on from “Walking with Dinosaurs” and “Walking with Beasts”, “Sea Monsters” once again recreates the prehistoric world, giving us an insight into the underwater environment of that time and the strange and fascinating creatures that dwelt there. The leading wildlife television presenter, Nigel Marven, explores their world through a series of “encounters”, where he dives deep into the past and swims with these extraordinary reptiles and mammals. From the fearsome hunter, Liopleurodon, one of the biggest predators that ever existed, to Megalograptus, the most vicious of the spiny sea scorpions, the deadly prehistoric seas are vividly brought to life as we see these creatures through Nigel’s eyes. Some of the ancestors of these predators exist today, but even the great white shark and blue whale cannot come close in threat and size to these prehistoric species. Illustrated boxes describe the latest scientific evidence that led to the reconstruction of these creatures, with details of the modern sites, from New York to Egypt, where water once covered the land.Read more

Seabiscuit: Three Men and a Racehorse
From the author of Unbroken – a major motion picture releasing in 2015 – this is the bestselling true story of three men and their dreams for a racehorse, Seabiscuit.
In 1938 one figure received more press coverage than Mussolini, Hitler or Roosevelt. He was a cultural icon and a world-class athlete – and an undersized, crooked-legged racehorse by the name of Seabiscuit.
Misunderstood and mishandled, Seabiscuit had spent seasons floundering in the lowest ranks of racing until a chance meeting of three men. Together, they created a champion. This is a story which topped the bestseller charts for over two years; a riveting tale of grit, grace, luck and an underdog’s stubborn determination to win against all odds.
Made into a major motion picture starring Toby Maguire and Jeff Daniels.

Joscelyne’s Beach: A Memoir of Leigh-on-Sea
In 1909 – when Arthur Joscelyne was six – his father emptied the family savings from the jug on the mantelpiece to buy 200 yards of beach on the north shore of the River Thames.Arthur helped run ‘Joscelyne’s Beach’ for 20 years. His boyhood reminiscences vividly bring to life a world long disappeared. The tide, the gulls, and the dinghies set the scene for a cast of characters that will never be forgotten. This lyrically beautiful memoir offers an exquisite snapshot of English coastal life before, during and after the First World War.See also Arthur Joscelyne’s companion book: Joscelyne’s Tales of Old Leigh and Chalkwell.REVIEWS OF Joscelyne’s Beach:“Beyond the bounds of this idyllic place, two world wars came and went, generations grew and faded, and Southend relentlessly enlarged . . . This small patch of private foreshore somehow seemed to enshrine so much of Southend’s – and the English seaside’s history, as well as a haunting sense of a vanished happy world . . . If this book is as widely read as predicted, this bewitched morsel of land will once again become Joscelyne’s Beach in theminds of people far beyond Essex.”The Evening Echo“Here are recollections at first hand from Edwardian childhood to the 1940s, with a broad variety of people and events, hopes and disappointments brought to life with insight . . . Francis Turnidge the sailmaker; the magnificently uniformed Gravesend coastguards; a champagne-quaffing countess and many others. Boats are an underlying thread: a ‘white elephant’ hire dinghy too posh to use; a rowboat from Gamages which proved invaluable; buying a Gravesend shrimper for £20 . . . An unusual and beguiling book, with its background of sun, sand and seaweed.”Classic Boat“This lyrical memoir offers a vivid insight into Leigh-on-Sea and its characters before, during and after the First World War.”Essex MagazineRead more

The Seabird’s Cry: The Lives and Loves of Puffins, Gannets and Other Ocean Voyagers
WINNER OF THE WAINWRIGHT PRIZE 2018
WINNER OF THE JEFFERIES AWARD FOR NATURE WRITING 2017
The full story of seabirds from one of the greatest nature writers. The book looks at the pattern of their lives, their habitats, the threats they face and the passions they inspire – beautifully illustrated by Kate Boxer.
Seabirds are master navigators, thriving in the most demanding environment on earth. In this masterly book, drawing on all the most recent research, Adam Nicolson follows them to the coasts and islands of Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, Norway, and the Americas. Beautifully illustrated by Kate Boxer, The Seabird’s Cry is a celebration of the wonders of the only creatures at home in the air, on land and on the sea. It also carries a warning: the number of seabirds has dropped by two-thirds since 1950. Extinction stalks the ocean and there is a danger that the grand cry of a seabird colony will this century become little but a memory.

But Mount Polbearne is a far cry from the sleepy little place she was imagining. Swimming with Seals
A book about intense physical and personal experience, narrating how Victoria Whitworth began swimming in the cold waters of Orkney as a means of escaping a failing marriage.
This is a memoir of intense physical and personal experience, exploring how swimming with seals, gulls and orcas in the cold waters off Orkney provided Victoria Whitworth with an escape from a series of life crises and helped her to deal with intolerable loss.
It is also a treasure chest of history and myth, local folklore and archaeological clues, giving us tantalising glimpses of Pictish and Viking men and women, those people lost to history, whose long-hidden secrets are sometimes yielded up by the land and sea.

The Ukulele Songbook: Shanties & Songs of the Sea
Thomas Balinger
The Ukulele Songbook
Shanties & Songs of the SeaFar-away oceans, perilous storms, bold explorers, bloodthirsty pirates and treasures hidden on mysterious islands – but likewise the hopes and the fears of friends, lovers and families left back home on dry land – have made for fascinating and evocative stories since the day men caught a glimpse of the deep blue sea.
But there’s more to the ocean’s fascination than just stories and myths. It also spawned its very own kind of music: the Shanties – songs of the wind and the waves, of hard work on the seven seas, of romantic buccaneers and brutal skippers harrying their crews to the marrow. In this book you’ll find a collection of shanties known and loved all over the world, arranged for easy Ukulele in standard C tuning (G-C-E-A). Of course, there’s „classics“ like Banks of Sacramento, Blow the man down or What shall we do with the drunken sailor, but you’ll also encounter some songs not as common and maybe some you might never have heard before.
All songs in musical notation with chord symbols plus melody TAB – you don’t have to read music to start playing right away!
Whether you want to pick the melody, strum the chords or just need the complete lyrics: you’ll find everything you need on these pages. And if you don’t know how to play a particular chord, don’t worry: each song features easy-to-read chord diagrams, too.
For reference, there’s a handy appendix listing all the chords used in this book plus a selection of easy strumming patterns you can use to accompany songs.Songs
