Fighting Parkinson’s…and Winning: A memoir of my recovery from Parkinson’s Disease
“After reading this book and following Howard’s recipe for some time now, I can only say this book is worth each and every word. It is highly valuable and, by the way, I feel much better now and my symptoms have almost disappear so far. I recommend to anyone who is seeking some alternative path to his treatment on Parkinson’s.” — Amazon Kunde, Amazon Verified Purchaser.“Howard’s Recipe For Recovery is a breath of fresh air; If you do the recipe you will be on the road to recovery, the same road the cured walked before us, six of them so far in the past seven years. How full of hope is that?! The first sign that things were turning around for me was that my sense of smell came back after twenty years. Now where before there was despair I’m so thankful to have hope and the means to make it happen…now there are tears of joy! It’s a great book…Don’t miss it! Hope fulfilled is priceless and it’s in your hand. Buy the book!!!!” — Thomas J., Amazon Verified Purchaser.
“This book is the fascinating story of his recovery, and the recovery of others over the years afterwards, using his Recipe…Although there are a few individual, poorly substantiated claims of curing Parkinson’s, this is the only one I know of that has cured multiple identified individuals of this “incurable” disease. We owe Howard a great deal of gratitude for his generosity in sharing his Recipe with us here and on his extensive website. His Recipe is likely to be the best cure available over the next decade.” — prestonpdx, Amazon Verified Purchaser.
Howard Shifke fully recovered from Parkinson’s Disease. This memoir presents Howard’s story of getting Parkinson’s and provides a detailed account of how he won the fight against it. The memoir tells the story of what it was like for Howard to live day-to-day with Parkinson’s, getting through the daily challenges and misgivings as well as how he looked toward the future with hope.
Howard suffered with internal tremors; extremely poor balance; Bradykinesia (walking — hunched forward, shuffled feet, arms did not swing); rigidity (arms, legs and upper back were tight and extremely painful); constipation; inability to stand up straight, to get out of a chair without using arms, to go up and down stairs without holding railing; difficulty getting a utensil to his mouth when trying to eat; falling asleep in middle of the day; frozen face; inability to write or to type with two hands; extreme fatigue.
In the fall of 2009, Howard Shifke was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. His mother had Parkinson’s for twenty-four years before dying in 2007, just two years prior to Howard diagnosis of Parkinson’s. Having watched her physically deteriorate from the disease and mentally deteriorate from the medications was difficult and frightening.Howard did not want to end up the way his mother had ended up with the disease.
Fortunately, in 1999, Howard had started studying alternative healing and Traditional Chinese Medicine. In the ten years leading up to his diagnosis, he had learned the body has the ability to heal itself. As a result, Howard decided he would endeavor to recover from Parkinson’s, and he developed an alternative treatment methodology called his Parkinson’s Recipe for Recovery®.
Nine months later, he won the fight against Parkinson’s with his full recovery. In Howard’s two neurologist visits subsequent to his full recovery, his neurologist put him through all of the tests used for the original diagnosis. Both times, his neurologist documented in Howard’s medical records that there were no signs or symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease.Howard has been symptom free fully recovered from Parkinson’s since June 12, 2010.

A WATERSTONES NATURE AND TRAVEL BEST BOOK OF 2023
LONGLISTED FOR THE WAINWRIGHT NATURE WRITING PRIZE 2023
‘Modern, revealing and restorative, a coastal treasure’ Amy Liptrot
‘Like its talismanic title, Huband’s voice is distinct and singular. A gorgeous reckoning with the sea, islands and mythology’ Sinéad Gleeson
‘A wild melding of body and landscape. A deep, immersive, storm-tossed read’ Helen Jukes
‘As vital and complex as the oceans themseleves’ Joanna PocockA powerful journey of sea and self, trial and hope on the islands of Shetland
When a seed falls from a vine in the tropics and is carried by ocean currents across the Atlantic to the shores of Western Europe – it is known as a sea bean. It is still considered lucky to find a sea bean on the shore, they have been used as magical charms for more than a thousand years.
Sally’s search for a sea bean begins not long after she moves to the windswept archipelago of Shetland. When pregnancy triggers a chronic illness and forces her to slow down, Sally takes to the beaches. There she discovers treasure freighted with story and curiosities that connect her to the world.
The wild shores of Shetland offer glimpses of orcas swimming through the ocean at dusk, the chance to release a tiny storm petrel into the dark of the night and a path of hope. This beachcombing path takes her from the Faroese archipelago to the Orkney islands, and the Dutch island of Texel. It opens a world of ancient myths, fragile ecology, and deep human history. It brings her to herself again.
Sea Bean is a message in a bottle. An interconnection of our oceans, communities and ourselves, and an invitation to feel belonging when we are adrift.

Borderline Personality Disorder For Dummies, 2nd Edition
Get to know the ins and outs of BPD―and make the choice to change!
Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is an extremely serious―and often seriously neglected―condition. Despite around 4 million diagnoses in the USA, BPD has attracted lower funding and levels of clinical concern than more “popular” conditions such as bipolar disorder. But there’s no need to lose hope! Borderline Personality Disorder For Dummies, 2nd Edition was written to bridge this gap and help sufferers learn how to break the cycle to lead a full and happy life.
BPD impacts the way you think and feel about yourself and others and can cause long-term patterns of disruptive relationships and difficulties with self-control. It often results from childhood abuse or neglect, as well as from genetic or brain abnormalities―particularly in areas of the brain that regulate emotion, impulsivity, and aggression. Knowing how it works means we know how to manage it, and Borderline Personality Disorder For Dummies―written in a friendly, easy-to-follow style by two leading clinical psychologists―is packed with useful techniques to do just that: from identifying triggers to finding the right care provider.
- Get a compassionate, actionable understanding of the symptoms and history of BPD
- Acquire techniques to identify and halt damaging behaviors
- Evaluate providers and the latest therapies and treatments
- Set goals and habits to overcome problems step-by-step
BPD should never be allowed to dictate anyone’s existence. This reference gives you the tools to take your life back and is a must-have for sufferers and their loved ones alike.

Colours of Film: The Story of Cinema in 50 Palettes
‘What’s so wonderful about Bramesco’s book, outside of a visually splendid layout that embraces the first word of that title with detailed color breakdowns of each palette, is how much it enhances the critical language of the average viewer.’ – Brian Tallerico, Editor of RogerEbert.comTaking you from the earliest feature films to today, Colours of Film introduces 50 iconic movies and explains the pivotal role that colour played in their success.
The use of colour is an essential part of film. It has the power to evoke powerful emotions, provide subtle psychological symbolism and act as a narrative device.
Wes Anderson’s pastels and muted tones are aesthetically pleasing, but his careful use of colour also acts as a shorthand for interpreting emotion. And let’s not forget Schindler’s List (1993, dir. Steven Spielberg), in which a bold flash of red against an otherwise black-and-white film is used as a powerful symbol of life, survival and death.
In Colours of Film, film critic Charles Bramesco introduces an element of cinema that is often overlooked, yet has been used in extraordinary ways. Using infographic colour palettes, and stills from the movies, this is a lively and fresh approach to film for cinema-goers and colour lovers alike.
He also explores in fascinating detail how the development of technologies have shaped the course of modern cinema, from how the feud between Kodak and Fujifilm shaped the colour palettes of the 20th Century’s greatest filmakers, to how the advent of computer technology is creating a digital wonderland for modern directors in which anything is possible.
Filled with sparkling insights and fascinating accounts from the history of cinema, Colours of Film is an indispensable guide to one of the most important visual elements in the medium of film.

Arthur Gould: Rugby’s First Superstar
Arthur Gould is the definitive biography of the record-breaking Welsh international player who is widely acknowledged as the first superstar of rugby. Such was his fame and renown, that upon his tragic, early death in 1919, aged just 54, Gould’s funeral in Newport was reported as the biggest Wales had ever seen. Nicknamed ‘Monkey’ due to his childhood fondness for climbing trees, Gould played the majority of his club rugby for Newport RFC and won a then-record 27 Welsh caps; 25 of which were at centre (a record only bettered by Steve Fenwick in 1980); and captained his country 18 times (a record only beaten in 1994 by Ieuan Evans). A true sporting sensation, when he retired in 1899 Gould had played more first-class matches and scored more tries and drop goals than any other player. Gould’s superstar status was illustrated late in his career when a testimonial appeal received widespread public support and resulted in the Scottish and Irish unions cancelling their fixtures with Wales in protest at the apparent breach of the game’s strict amateur ethos. The controversy deepened when the Welsh Football Union (now the WRU) stood firmly behind their iconic player and withdrew from the International Rugby Board. Fearing that lucrative fixtures with Welsh clubs might be lost and that Wales might join forces with the newly established Northern Union of professional rugby, England’s Rugby Football Union brokered a ‘one-off’ dispensation which enabled Gould to benefit from the testimonial while retaining his amateur status, and ensured that international fixtures were resumed. Comprehensively researched and written by acclaimed rugby historian, Gwyn Prescott, with the full support and encouragement of the Gould family, Arthur Gould – Rugby’s First Superstar includes over 100 illustrations and will be enjoyed by all who love rugby and treasure its sporting and cultural heritage.Read more

World in their Hands: The Story of the First Women’s Rugby World Cup
World in their Hands recounts the remarkable events that led to a group of friends from south-west London staging the inaugural Women’s Rugby World Cup in 1991. The tournament was held just 13 years after teams from University College London and King’s contested a match that catalysed the growth of the women’s game in the UK, and the organisers overcame myriad obstacles before, during and after the World Cup. Those challenges, which included ingrained misogyny, motherhood, a recession, the Gulf War and the collapse of the Soviet Union, provide a fitting framing device for a book that celebrates female achievement in the face of adversity.
Although ostensibly a story about women’s rugby, this is a tale that has rare crossover appeal. It is not only the account of a group of inspirational women who took on the institutional misogyny that existed in rugby clubs across the globe to put on a first ever Women’s Rugby World Cup. It is also the compelling and relatable tale of how those women, their peers and others in the generations before them, reshaped the idea of what it means to be a woman, finding acceptance and friendship on boggy rugby pitches. At the time, with the men’s game tying itself up in knots about professionalism and apartheid, these women were a breath of fresh air. Three decades on, their achievements deserve to be highlighted to a wider audience.

IT Girls: Pioneer Women in Computing
Women have played a vital role in the development of computing, although at times their participation has gone unrecognised. Their scholarly inventiveness and discoveries have provided a rich tapestry to add to the evolution of computer science in the world. It is important that these women be viewed through the lens of their time, placing their achievements in context throughout the past few centuries. These significant contributions by women date from the earliest times and this book brings together the stories of those who have left their mark, despite the significant hurdles they have faced. There are numerous tales of remarkable women in computing and their incredible achievements serve as an encouragement to others who have a yearning to follow in their footsteps.
Although there are many women who deserve recognition in this way, including the much vaunted Ada Lovelace, Hedy Lamarr and Grace Hopper, there are others whose talent is undoubted although they have not received the plaudits they deserve. This book outlines the lives and work of talented women from different eras and countries.
Inspired by the success of the author’s book Women of Science, this volume will provide a valuable reference tool and starting point for those who wish to further expand their knowledge of these women who played such a vital role in the development of computers that have changed the way we live.
